Are there any limitations on this guide for bass rods? Are they good for 15-20# fluorocarbon? Do they pass Alberto knots well if doing braid to fluoro leader?

Looking at the McMaster Carr site Mark referenced, they sell graphite tubes! Low modulus (33-36) and high modulus (57-63) options.
I believe the old rodmaker article for extending blanks said to use lower modulus for extending blanks.
What would the ideal wall thickness be?

I have never seen crumbly foam.
CFX brand arbors are the lightest I have measure, thenn the gray “graphite foam” then the flex coat white arbors. I do not know what density they correspond to other than that CFX has claimed 3 lb foam with the strength/density of 6 lb foam (I think I saw this on Mudhole).

I plan on making a spinning rod handle using the CFX foam core material, shaping it, putting a carbon skin on it, and attaching the reel with the slip rings.
Of flex coat white arbors, graphite colored foam arbors, and the CFX foam material, CFX is the lightest quite a bit. Is it strong enough to be used with a Tennessee handle slip ring attachment method for the spinning reel? If not, I can

maybe the NFC SJ 762 would be an option too? Or extend a RodGeeks Carbon4 70 mlf to get the 7’ 6” length?

Look at the reviews for the 7-6 mlxf and the 7-0 mlf St. Croix rods on TackleTour.com. The way they compare blanks in the graphs makes the two of them look fairly similar, at least to me. Maybe you could extend a 7-0 blank?

I think this is the most confusing part of NFC.
I think the sj732 is a medium light finesse lure type rod and find the mb 733 more of a medium power rod.
I have a X-ray 703 blank but have not built it yet, feeling like a finesse rod though too.

I find the Neo is a blank for moving baits. I like it with around 5" keitech style swimbaits. I would do well with spinnerbaits. It is not a heavy cover, horse them out style blank. It has give in the tip. It would work well for crank baits too (I don't through those much, not a fan of treble hooks unless I need to use them).
"Stout, but with give" is how I would describe

100. Re: Ramps
I have started using carbon fiber over arbors that are shaped how,I want. The arbors are also used to mount the reel seat, so double duty.

What size spinning reels do you recommend do you recommend this for compared to the size 20 microwave system? I am thinking of rebuilding a steelhead rod with these and pairing it up with a size 40 quantum reel.

102. Re: Knots and Guides
I have not tried the fg knot since it looks too complicated for me. On SaltStrong , they say:
“ FG Knot*
Pro: Thinnest knot I’ve ever seen while also having the highest breaking strength.
Con: Requires a strong cinch before cutting the tags so that it fully locks into place.
Note: Only use this knot if tying a braided line to a stronger mono/fluoro leader.”
When I use a Fluoro leader i

I am tempted to epoxy the front ring in place permanently and make the rear ring fit snug by tweaking the thickness of the epoxy on the carbon fiber. My thinking is that I am going for a super light X-ray ds721 rod and since I like size 18 or larger seats (smaller sizes hurt a tendon that goes from my wrist to base of thumb), this is a good way of getting a light reel seat. I like the size 18 NP

I am thinking about making some small Tennessee handles out of the graphite arbor foam material with the woven graphite skin over top. I plan on attaching the reel with the graphite slip rings. Is there any reason to be. concerned that the arbors will deform from the reel foot over time? It seems like the graphite foam materials is rigid enough to hold its shape over time. Thank you for your

I would say a 6” plastic swimbait on a weighted hook is too heavy for my NEO. A 5” Keitech style on a weighted hook is about perfect. I will need to get a scale out again, but I think the 6” is 2oz without the weighted hook and the 5” with the weighted hooks is about 1.5 oz. Heavy spinnerbaits are good to go. I don’t throw crank baits much, so I don’t know about those. The tip is definitely

106. Re: Long handle
I just did the same thing. I was placing the reel seat focusing on the balance and in the end, I think the handle length is about 1-1.5” too long to be ideal. Two piece rod and guides are not on yet, so it would possible to cut off the seat and move it. I was shooting for the rod to balance level right in front of the reel seat, if the handle is shorter, it is more tip down balance. Length i

Justin, how would you compare the SJ 736 and the MB 736? I just finished the SJ 736 but have not fished it much and have to order one more guide so I can finish the MB 736.

Maybe post some pictures of the broken rods and someone here can help ID the cause based on the location and kind of break. I have been updating all my rods with X-rays. Making me nervous...

I have one with the same coloration pattern. I would assume that is due to the composite nature of the blank. I have not used it much yet, I put a 6" swimbait on it for testing, which maxes it out for sure but it weights over 2 oz with the weighted hook. Mine weighed the same (3.290 oz). Interesting blank, but I have not used it much yet so I cannot offer practical advice on it.

My SJ 703 Xray is 1.455 oz. My MB 733 is 1.9 oz. That makes my X-ray set almost complete. I am not planning on getting the MB 7109 though.

I have one of each that has the exact same build (just need to finish guides) and one is .5 oz heavier than the other. Everything I had read said the SJ was heavier and more powerful than the MB, n

My guess is that is it more of a popping blank action. It will not match their MB 736 in power like then specs alone suggest.

That seems high for the MB 736. Sounds more like the SJ 736 from what I have read, but who knows.
There is about a 1/2 oz difference in weight between the two blanks with the SJ b

I think the MB 736 X-ray is close to what you are looking for then. I have seen that with a rating of 547 grams. I have not tested mine.
Shoot, with my most recent order, I will almost have all of the X ray blanks. Just missing the 7109.
I guess I better brush up the the CC systems and get some stuff set up to measure at some point.

I used a Fuji ECS on mine. It feels like the blank taper really straightens out at the bottom of the blank. I started with what I had on hand, a 13.5 so it was a lot of reaming. I had to put my reamer in the rod lathe to get it done. It was more work than expected. The barrel of the reel seat still fit fine though, just the smallest gap between the barrel and the blank. I am trying to use up

Is the blank weight accurate? Seems like a big jump in weight compared to the jump between 7-0 and 7-6.
7’0” = 1.7 oz
7’6” = 1.7 oz
8’0” = 3.1 oz

119. Re: Nfc blank
I willl have to weight the rods when they are done but the SJ 736 is about .5 oz heavier than the mb 736. So, the extra graphite must be doing something in there. I can’t wait to finish them. I have not built a rod in years and have bought a bunch of x-rays to build..sj 736, mb 736, two Ds 721, sj 732, mb 765 neo, mb 7108, and a couple hm 704’s.
