Spencer, currently my main zander rod is St Croix 5S70MHF2 , for finesse aplications I use 5S76MLXF2; I also use two Hydra rods, MB843 and MB844 (first production models called Ng at that time as I remember) - have you got any of this maybe? David, X-comp series of blanks by RodGeek aren't fiberglass blanks, are they? I had the impression that they are carbon material blanks whreas I am loo

Wow, Spencer such comparison would be awesome, thank you very much !!! So if you are that kind, please compare SBS 706 s-glass with some Batson RX7 / Revelation blank just to imagine how it reacts under load. Thank you ! ps. I though about 'casting' version of SBS 706 which is SBC706 but this blank is sigificantly heavier (over 5oz from the specs) and for me it is too heavy for a walleye /

Hi, I would like to ask you for recommendations. I am looking for fastest "glass" blank I can find. From what I've read up to now it seems that seeker s-glass blanks are probably the fastest. I need blank for plastics fishing ( 1/2-3/4 oz jigheads plus 4"-5" grub/worm/softjerk(minnow type)), have to have good hook-setting power and some backbone but on the other hand

Bob, Thank you very much for your kind reply. One more question if I may then: if 3S80MLM2 is more a "fly" than a "spinning" rod blank, how would you rate this blank in terms of fly line: #7? #8?

Hello, I would like to ask whether anyone uses this blank, especially in current (redesigned) version? St.Croix describes the blank as float-n-fly blank, moderate action, but taking into consideration usually crisp characteristics of Avid blanks I really do not know what to expect. Is it more a fly blank or a spinning blank? What about backbone - 8lb would be preatty enough for st.croix spin

I think at least some clients expect expertise and knowledge from a rodbuilder, especially when they offer their money in return. I think that rodbuilding is not about "selling" rods but about constructing the rods with understanding of the rod features and so on. I believe there is a difference between "business" and "craft".

Marc, here where I live they are very popular, both Rainshadow (RX7) and Forecast (RX6) series. And now new XST. No problem at all with the strenght of the 2 piece models, ferrules etc. We use mostly Salmon & Steelhed blanks for spinning, though.

Hello, I am working upon spacing for Lamiglas 9'0" 25 lb spinning blank. My original plan was to put Fuji L8 guides at the tip section + Fuji F8 tip top. Hovewer, I noticed that there is much differece of height between L8 and F8 - the tip top is quite low. I moved L8 further down the blank (5" from tip top) but still I am not satisfied. Maybe, instead od F8 I should use P8, despite

Harry, I think I start to get your point, finally. Some explanation: 1/ I referred to the linear relationship between stiffness and resonant frequency, not to the linear nature of stiffness 2/ As far as increasing resonant frequency is concerned. Of course, it is obvious, that you can not increase the resonant frequency of the ROD beynd resonant frequency of the bare BLANK. All rodbuilder

I am ashamed to confess that I still didn't get you - this is my last try I think ;) maybe I have to face the facts and admit that there are things in this world which are simply beyond my capacity of my brain :D Some most recent quotas of you: 1/the stiffness increases the resonant frequen

Harry, :) do you realise, that if you are right, what we are talking now is one of the most important breakethrough in the way we think about the blank/rod construction in the last, I would say at least 10 years? Boy, Harry, what have you done ;) Okay, back to the question. It ties.... only little bit to me. First, I need to know wheter I made a good preasumption that: high-angle

Harry, don't have this RM issue yet, and can't wait to read your article. It seems to me, that it is a kind of a revolutionary discover, completely opposite of what many of fisherman and rodbuilders thought so far about red sensitivity. From your past articles, I came to a conclusion that the rod performance is the best, when the resonant frequency is higher. In the article "Rod versus

I agree with Tony entirely. One coat seems to increase the "feel" . I sometimes put two thin coats though, one after another, when I want to get more smooth, wood-like surface of the grip. Puls cork dries after the rain quickly with cork-seal.

In my opinion, moving stripper guides 26", and beyoynd, the front of the reel seat can have negative effect as far as casting performance is concerned, in the situation when one casts with the presence of the side-wind. The long distance between the reel front and the stripper guide causes the guides to lost some of their channelizing effect and, as a result, side-wind forms a baloon of the

Tom, thank you very much for explanation. Frankly speaking I am still little bit concerned about the increased line-guide friction caused by so many small, single foot running guides, and, as a result, shortened casting distance. I think I'll give a try both soultions in field, I am a kind of visual man :)

Tom, sorry for joining - without being asked - but... Would you really wrap the same way, 9'0" spinning blank and 6'6" spinning blank? And the only difference would be the number of runnnig guides? That would mean, really, - a lot - of running guides on the longer one...

Dear all, I've heard somewhere that titanium Fuji guides have different rings (recessed) in comparison with the same frame-style (model) stainless stell guides... Actually, I seek for the quite precise information: a) does titanium SV two foot guides have different ring type (U?J?) than stainless steel frame SV guides? b) does titanium SG single foot fly guides have different ring typ

Dear All, my friend asked me to seek for a light travel blank: must be 6'0" and 3-piece. As far as I got know, not a big choice. Actually, one o the very few if not the only one I found is Sage spinning blank 260-3 The blank seems to be light, delicate, OK for the intended purpose (trout). However, I wonder what is the action of this blank? I would rather like sth medium-fast, as th
