I am trying to chose the best CB701 for my needs from NFC offering (this blank is being offered in IM, SM and Delta line) but I am confused with different specs of this blank published in various places. First of all, tip & butt O.D.'s from the NFC website do not match paramaters from their online catalogue - so I don't know which should I follow. Secondly, CCS paramteres ( IP, AA )

I think that an ideal situtaion would be to include in the rod description: IP, AA and c.w. and line rating suggested by the manufacturer, e.g. IP = 350, AA = 78, c.w. 1/4- 1/2 oz, 6-10 lb We would have kind of both worlds, some objective data (CCS based) and some suggestions by the manufacturer that are not necessarily easy to conclude from IP & AA

With an overall bent, which is quite often especially among thin-walled light powered blanks - the best way seems to be to put guides rings down according with the direction of the blank bent. Finished rod looks good. However, I would not advise to put guides with rings in the direction opposite to the blank curvature because usually they are not heavy enough to "force" the blank to st

Thank you Spencer ! Which NFC 702 you are referring to, P702-1 (HM) ? apart from P703-1 (IM), P702-1(HM) there is also P

Thank you guys for your response, I already have X-Ray SJ 703 - still as a blank - and I would say it is two steps up in power in comparison to FW702-2. Recently I ordered SB783 at Black Friday - yes, together with some carbon grips - and as Kelsey for NFC informed me it is going to be shipped soon so I guess it is not that bad with NCF customer service Marc ;) Russel, P702-1 (HM) is descrb

Hello, I am looking for the information regarding two NFC popping blanks P702 and P703. My idea is to use one of them to build perch / walleye spinning rod (light braided line + fluorocarbon leader, 1/16- 3/8 oz jigheads + small grubs and shads). I wonder if I can find IP and AA numbers for these blank anywhere? or any foto with bent/action charcteristics ? Maybe one of the owners/

As we are talking about experiments: next time when you are fishing in a river (or current of any kind) please put your ear to your rod and you will be surprised how much noise it creates. And generally, the thicker the line the more noisy the setup is. I use braided lines exclusively now, wtith fluorocarbon or mono leaders. It gave second life to my e-glass rods, I've found the combination

Scott, I guess you have to look in Asia or in Europe. In Japan you have Matagi with some ST blank in their offer, in Europe some rodbuilders order OEM ST blanks from China Or you can make such blank yourself cutting some tubular blank and glueing in solid carbon or e-glass tip for ice rods. This is they way some rodbuilders give 'second live' to rods with broken tips.

I think there are some advantages of unsanded blanks, actually. Taking into consideration that what is an advantage depends on what we want to achieve in the given situation. Having said that, my 2 observations: 1. unsanded blanks are little bit more stiff. Good example is NFC MB blanks Delta vs. IM. Same models, basically IM's are just sanded Deltas - little bit softer. 2. you can prodcu

In my opinion Immortal / RX8 / XST blank are one of the best value for money on the market. If you want a sensitve blank then Immortal is probably the best bang for the buck. Of course , there are higher end blanks than Immortal but they cost waaaay more.

Joe, I started from this point :) if you try to add blank to the cart it say it is not available. That is how my search and this topic begun ;) In the meantime, I also stumbled across sth.. NFC Zentron (Delta) hybryd blanks, namely CB704 - specs look ideal... what do you think?

And you don't feel that it is too powerfull / bulky for lighter lure ? 655 was rated 17 lb (and later they changed it to 15lb) and 706 is a 20 lb blank...

Thank you Joe, that was very smart, I should have thought of it ! Currently I have a spinning rod on SBS655 and would like to make a second rod as a baitcaster. Applications: 1/4-3/8 oz crankbaits (2"-.2.5" , shallow or medium diver ), 3/8-1/2 oz minnows (3.5"-4.5", shallow or lipless ), 1/4-1/2 oz chatterbaits, some poppers/surface baits 2"-3"

I have to disagree. I don't think that it is all limited to comparison of physical dimensions of the blank. There are features of the blank that are very hard to measure but an experienced rodbuilder / angler can name them, epecially when comparing two blanks. And that is what I am hoping for in this topic ;) I simply try to find blank the most similiar to seeker model SBS655 in terms of per

Gentleman, I have good old, black Seeker model SBS655 6'6" 1 8-17 lb. 3/8 - 3/4 oz. 5.0 0.705 3.07 I am very happy with. Unfortuantelly I am not able to source this blank anywhere... so I am looking for a replacement. Can you help and suggest sth ? I've browsed webites and found following, but have no idea how are these in comparison to my seeker: Gen 2 MHX S-Glass SSP844-MHX 7'

Thank you Norman, if 5C68MF was sth in beetween 5S70MF and 5C70MHF that woul be ideal..... I wonder is there a difference between "B" models (extreme) and "G" models (elite). On paper I would say tha G-model should be little bot stronger as it has bigger taper (butt O.D. 0.450 vs 0.435) and it is a tad heavier (1.5oz vs 1.4 oz)... could anyone comment on differences between c

Hi, I am trying to find any info regarding st. croix 5C68MF-B blank and would appreciate your help , gentlemen. I would like to make a spinning rod with this and my concern is c.w. of this blank. My experience with St. Croix blanks so far is that they allow to use much heavier lures than described and I wonder if it is the case for this model as well. Currently I am using 5S70MF-2 (2010 mo

Gentlemen, thank for your help and good advice. End of the story is that a good friend of mine have found old, black Seeker model SBS655 6'6" 1 8-17 lb. 3/8 - 3/4 oz. 5.0 0.705 3.07 for me and made a spinning rod. Since then I've caught dozens of european zanders with it (average fish about 25" and 4lb) , with lures like 4"-5" soft jerkbaits (minnow type) with 1/2oz-5/8oz

Thank you for explaining X-comp blank construction, looks like I've missed the inf that they are composite somehow. I wonder whether they are glass blanks plus graphite outer wrap or just have glass tip and the rest of te blank is carbon ?

Spencer, currently my main zander rod is St Croix 5S70MHF2 , for finesse aplications I use 5S76MLXF2; I also use two Hydra rods, MB843 and MB844 (first production models called Ng at that time as I remember) - have you got any of this maybe? David, X-comp series of blanks by RodGeek aren't fiberglass blanks, are they? I had the impression that they are carbon material blanks whreas I am loo
