Paul, I don't know the FLEXLITE guides,so i can tell nothing. About of number of guides i can tell you for my 3.15m.(10'3") spinning rod build by me on ALL STAR AUSTIN W8 blank i use just 6 match guides,and the rod work perfect.If you send me your e-mail address i can send some pictures to see how the rod work fighting with big fish. Sorry Paul,because this type of guides have long leg ,you don't need so many guides.I build spinning rod on blank 9'w4 and the rod is perfect and light for my test.

Ben, I build many spinning rod (10'-13')on fly blanks (W4,W5,W6.W8.W9)using BMLG16,BMLG12, BMLG10 ,BMLG08, BMLG07. BMLG06,BMLG05,MBLG04, BMLT04.0 and i was catching many fish(the bigest over 40lb. ) fishing with FIRELINE 4lb.. Use this type of guides (model "M") because work very good for your rod. Try to call Bill Batson and ask for model "M'guides with PVD TiN GOLD COATE

Dan, I think you can use the match style guides ,model "M"(BATSON ENTERPRISES,PACIFIC BAY). I use this guides to build over 6 long rods(10'-16') and i am very happy with this rods,no problems. Jean

@Adrian, What Tom tell you is right., My advise is to use high "match"slyle frame guides ,model "M"(BATSON ENTERPRISES),because this guides are designed for ultra-light and light action rods.I builded many spinning rods using fly blanks(9' w4,w5 ,w6 ,w8,w9 )and match guides and i can say i love this rods. I like to fish with long rods and for this reason a use fly rod blank to built my spiinning rods.I have built spinning rods on ALL STAR AUSTIN fly blank 4w,5w ,6w ,w8,ST.CROIX AVID W9. I am very happy fishing on the bank (fresh and salt water) with this rods. With the rod built on ALL STAR AUSTIN 9' W5 i can cast easy 1/32oz jigs and i was catching fish over 40lb. using 4lb. For walleye(or another fish) you can build easy spinning rod on fly blank 2-4piece(or more) .Because i like to fish on the bank with light and longer rods(10'-16') on jigs for white bass ,speckled trout,flounder ,red fish,drum etc. i have buliding myself rods using fly blanks+extension and am very happy with this rods. I build myself some spinning rod(10'-12') using ALL STAR AUSTIN fly blank W5,W8 and i am very happy with this rods,the only problem i can't find more blanks(very sensitive blanks and big reserve power)

I use one rod 12' build by me on travel fly blank ALL STAR AUSTIN 9' W8+extension KISTLER HELIUM for fishing with lure for speckled trout ,red fish,flounder. For crappie is better to use one spinning rod build on fly blank 9' W5 medium fast(if you can find one blank ALL STAR AUSTIN ,you are very lucky!!!) with SIC match guides ,model "M",long leg(PACIFIC BAY). If you use w7 blank is already to stiff.

I fish a lot for flounder ,red fish ,spotted trout with a spinning rod build by me on ALL STAR AUSTIN BAF908-4(9' W8) fly blank,4 piece. Super rod,the biggest catch on jig 1/8oz.,FIRELINE 4lb.,black drum over 40lb.
