Roger, It might be worthwhile to turn a complete set and compare the sustain and brightness of the tone. I know that ivory was used before being banned and a synthetic is used for end pins, but I'm not aware of graphite being used. You just might have something there.

Hello Jerry, If you can confirm the length and tip sizes of your blanks to match the model numbers and sizes that I provide, they just might be rolled on Harnell mandrels. 529 1pc 7'2" .715 butt #12 tip 550 1pc 8'6" .875 butt # 18 tip This info is from an old catalog and price list from 1988. The 527 is listed on the price list but not on the spec

Normally I can coat a size"D" wrap in one application with regular procoat and it looks flawless. Your not using enough, your coat is too dry. If you have any welding experience, you have to 'work the puddle" , Glob it on and use your brush to move the excess where it needs to be without becoming unbalanced.

Jim, I only have info on the Bluewater Series. There are 10 blanks in this series ranging in size from 5'1" to7' two seven footers are listed and the one closest to your description is a #BW1425SP70B ,14-25 lb., 9 tip, .6665 butt, blank ID D89 (?) Do you think this blank was extended to make the rod 7'6" or it could be from another series. I'm getting this info from an old Merrick Tackl

It all depends on what your looking for because the shops from the Highlands and going north on 36 and 35 have limited items. Fred's on 35 in Morgan had National thread and some blanks ,but if you find something there, its by chance. Julian's on 36 is another shop that (by Chance) you might find what your looking for. The best advice I could give is to call ahead to see if they have rod building

To you and anyone else who has this experience, it is called "Paying Your Dues" and this is how the craft has evolved. It is a true old world lesson that is gained by your desire to accomplish a task. You start with whats available, economical, and popular, then when the lessons over you invest in quality drying motors. Yes a new motor of the same type you now have will still reverse d

That's how I do it. With a sponge and then set it with heat from a heat gun as per instructions. Good luck with the air brushes.I never had luck with the Wicked colors, too watery. My best finishes were with the pearlized and sparkelesent colors.

Anthony,Skip the airbrush and get a small gun like they use for touch ups. You'll be there all day with an airbrush, the paint mist is like smoke. It takes a lot of passes to get a solid cover.

Anthony, For about $3.50 a jar you can get CreatX auto air paint and mix your own Mex-pink, prep your blank and wipe in on with a foam brush.

It's hard to believe that four interlocked rings is going to make a rod perform better, but if FUJI comes out with it you'll buy it. We all will.

I would just strip that whole handle off and build a Tennessee handle like you want. That's all it needs. Comfort, comfort, comfort.Alot of St.Croix rods are like that also. They have a good blank and guide train but the rods with split grips have a space under the reel feet that is not comfortable after holding the rod for a long time.

Maybe you should have been a doctor or maybe my doctor should have been a rodbuilder.Just kidding,Your handwriting is unique as should be your finished product. Let your customer sign it and you clear coat it. That way it becomes a truly personal rod.

Mark and Anthony, I didn't even know I had those guides until I saw the photo, then I started looking through my bins. I haven't seen those guides in 15 years. It was the photo that jogged my memory.
