I too try to help those in need of what I don't use. All they pay are shipping charges and most always send more.

Mo, CreateX paints have a large assortment of colors for whatever effect or finish you desire. I've been using them since 2001 when I rebuilt a surf rod for myself. I still have that rod and it looks great. Go to the CreateX website to learn how to use them.

Nine to twelve foot one piece blanks are getting difficult to locate and if you do find em shipping will double the cost of getting them to you. The longer tip section will allow you to jig ,pop, and swim the baits without much difference from a one piece blank.

You may have to paint that area where the guides will be white of use a foil tape to stop the dark color of the blank from showing. You will still have to use color preserver.

Mike, If you have on old rod that you can sacrifice, strip it down cut it in three equal pieces, glue 1" wide 60 grit sandpaper strips spiraled up each blank piece to be used as reamers. If you want to make power reamers of them , get some PC-7 epoxy and flatten one end of 1/4" round stock , coat with the PC-7 and insert into reamers as center as possible. After they cure you can chuck

Anthony, Testors model paint colors red and yellow are an exact match for Ugly Stix. You'll have to use a quil or a pin strip brush to get those fine lines.

You must consider the height of the bench top for weather you'll be standing or sitting at it.I'm 5'11", my bench top is at 44" at a standing height.

2X the createx suggested by Matthew. Once its applied use a heat gut to set it, then you can top coat it with anything you like. Also a slew of colors to choose.

St.Croix makes a really nice handle on their UL rods. You should look them up on their finished rods, not the handle kits they sell. If you like it, I have one I can send you.

Anthony, For the type of fishing you want to do I would try a fly seat with a cigar grip and a good quality under spin cast reel. You would be able to use micro guides all the way out that would cut down on a lot of weight. Why use a reel at all, get a TENKARA blank and fish your bait that way.

To All: If you want to cease innovation in this craft you are "right on" and "100% certain " to curtail the individuality of what we do. The question remains. How many people put finish on the whole blank? I have. Anyone else?

Herb, If their not using Flex Coat then its got to be something else.. I base my theory on the description of how their rods are built and the products they use to build them with. I also have the experience of working on these rods, and I can tell you the painted area between the guides have some sort of epoxy finish. How I know this is because with a little heat from a heat gun it gets soft an

There's no reason why you can't epoxy the whole rod. St.Croix FlexCoats all their rods from the fore grip to the tip/top and they look beautiful. Yes its true, it adds weight. About as much as a book of matches, and I'll bet you carry a cell phone but that doesn't seem to bother anyone now does it. As far as dust goes, If you have any kind of draft or air flow in the area where you finish your

A six piece rod would be much easier to repair than a one or two piece rod. Less guides to remove. Possibly none. If you want that rod repaired please email me.

1.5 mm? I would just wrap the rod butt with drywall mesh, coat it with rod bond and slide the slick butt over it into position. Don't forget to leave room for the gambol.

Billy, About 75% of my thread work is related to repairs , and when I sew on a guide I don't want that rod coming back for the same problem. I may be a little more heavy handed with the epoxy then you would with your personal rods. I can see you not wanting foot balls around your guide feet. But they match the factory rods I get for repairs. Fly rods included!

A hickory, oak, or maple dowel 1ft. long inserted from the butt of that 6" cut off so that it extends 6" into the blank will be strong enough to support the extension. The only pressure that piece will have on it is during the cast. I would not use hollow aluminum tubing. Solid fiberglass rod would also be a good replacement for the wood dowel.

I would think that on a rod that light, a 9" Tennessee grip with shrink wrap overlay would be the most comfortable handle.
