Mark and Anthony, I didn't even know I had those guides until I saw the photo, then I started looking through my bins. I haven't seen those guides in 15 years. It was the photo that jogged my memory.

Anthony, That's because I don't throw anything away. But someday it will.

My best could be your worst. You have to try them all yourself, and then the best will be what your comfortable with.

221. Lew's blanks
West Marine here in NJ has a great fishing section that I just discovered last Saturday and while I was checking things out I came upon some Lew's rods with Winn grips. Very nicely made with Micro-Wave guides but, what I really liked was the blanks they are using. I didn't bother to look at the model number or other info I just remember how that blank felt. I was just wondering if anyone knew wha

It makes me wonder sometimes, What cost more, the blank or the decal that comes with it.

It sounds to me that Dwight doesn't want a sharp contrast of a solid black line between natural and burl rings, but wants a shade of darker material to soften the transition between the two opposing rings.

Using rod bond to join cork rings will leave a glue line with out even trying, 1/32 would be no problem.

Mix black Testors paint with rod bond and glue them up with a heavy load. Compress until you have the desired spacing. Then clean up grip as you normally would.

Had to settle for a FS 664 due to "last of stock" but I will extend it by 12" which will become 7'6".

Richard, Thank you for your insight of the dynamics on what a flippin blank should resemble.I agree, the tip section needs a lot of power to set the hook and pull it out of the heavy cover and also cast control.
I have a FS764 (ATCll) on order to build up for myself , I just hope its what I'm expecting.

With a normal application it would be considered a high build finish. Its my go to finish for repairs.

Try surgical tubing. Also look in electrical supply house's for wire pulling mesh. If you can't find the mesh send me your address and I'll send you about three feet of it.

Jer, That normally is not done. You can do it if you like but it adds weight and may have to be removed as it wears in.

Your gonna need a 4oz spool of thread to wrap from there all the way back to the reel seat. Depending on how thick the blank wall is you may have to make about 4 or 5 passes on top of them. Next will be another 4oz of epoxy to coat all that thread. Just send it back and get a one piece blank.

Thanks Tom, That's a start. I sent St Croix a wish list of threads they use and hopefully they will help me out with the ID.
