Check out Anglers Resource Website. They have online software on there that helps with layout using either New Guide Concept or K Concept layouts. Also, I recently found this chart that I hadn't seen before. It gives some good starting points for layouts for different length rods but for sure you'd want to tweak your layout for your particular blank that you are building. Here are the links

@ Spencer are you referring to the Anglers Resource video here: starting around 5:25 into video? Still a little fuzzy about the RV6. I've got Angler's Resource current catalog and it seems to imply that you could jump right to KB's/KT's. The safer bet if using RV6 seems to be to use a KW5.5 and then onto the KB's/KT's. Here's what I'm thinking: 6-9" jerkbait rod: RV6, KW5.5, 2 or 3

Thanks for all the tips/advice. Good stuff. Never occurred to me that having that extra bit of flex out toward tip would be problematic. Having that extra bit of support for blank and also better securing guides definitely reduced my issues. Can see how having that support would be crucial for ice rods as well. Have heard and read they are more challenging to wrap. A friend is looking to bui

Wrapping up a couple rods this weekend and am finding still have some trouble once I get out toward the tip of the rod. Any tips/tricks to make this easier? Some of my issues include: - climbing up the guide foot seems a bit harder (thread wants to double up more and with the micro guides they want to move a bit when holding with surgical tubing) - sometimes my thread comes loose - getting t

I played around with lots of thing to hold guides and the tubing is my favorite. Tried dental ligatures and they were too tight and hard to cut off. Tried rubber bands and sometimes they’d come loose. Tried guide foot adhesive and had trouble getting it to stick especially on micro guide. Additionally you can’t make adjustments as easily with adhesives. Tubing of different sizes is favorite

Added a couple new NFC blanks to spreadsheet (and below) that I saw via email releases and/or social media releases. The Xray Neo Mag Pro 902-2 and Xray C602 SWB 807-1. For the Neo didn't see the AA info so if anyone from NFC can provide that much appreciate it. Thanks NFC for providing this info. Hope more manufacturers jump onboard. Manufacturer Series Model ID Length (Inches) IP (Grams)

Added the DS-6107 info provided by David and Evan above and got rid of the previous info since seemed to be off a bit. Also added the St Croix info from Evan that matches up nicely to another entry of same rod. To Evan's point about testing just the blank it would slightly impact the IP but not enough to matchup with David's info. Anyhow, thos two entries for the same blank seemed more reliabl

Daryl - looks like you can round up blank and components for under the budget so just have to decide what your labor/time to put it all together is worth. If you want to provide your acquaintance with a couple factory options that will have 8 ft rods under budget check out BnM Poles or ACC Crappie Stix. I have a few of each of these brands and they are decent rods for the money.

I added into spreadsheet the entries from @David Baylor above as well as @Kendall Cikanek Also, got first email sent to the email address in the google spreadsheet with numbers for several blanks for the Fly blank crowd that have been added into spreadsheet. Those blanks are also below: American Tackle AMF 662-2, 78 inches, 2 pc. 2 wt. ERN 1.92, AA 55 deg. Fenwick Glass FF535, 63 inche

I am a newer builder and currently working on a spinning rod build for my nephew as a graduation gift. If your spinning rod is going to have split grip could do the simple dragon scale (with mesh tape as backing). I just finished the dragon scale and came out pretty nice. Just make sure to keep metallic thread packed nice and tight. Could also do that above grip maybe on either side of decal

Some good discussion here. I definitely agree that there will be some variations in how people's measurement system is setup and also agree that there is going to be some variability between the exact same model blank from same manufacturer. So, refine measuring process as much as possible but also expect some variation with the data. Anyhow, regarding the discussions about what a penny weig

David - thanks for the writeup on your experience using the info to narrow down search for a blank to meet your needs. You mentioned referring to another CCS database. If you don't mind where is that info located? If the keeper of the info is cool with it could potentially merge info together to allow people to just have to search one location. I got into spreadsheet tonight and added the C

Added the Rainshadow and NFC blanks that Logan posted 4/4 and 4/10. Everyone keep em coming. Over 1000 and growing. Again, if anyone has several they want to add goto the Spreadsheet and download a copy. One of the tabs on the spreadsheet is a blank template. You can fill that out and email to the address on the spreadsheet and it'll come to me. I'll add them to our list.

This is another good topic for me as new builder on something I wasn't 100% clear on. This thread has done a good job of answering. @Tony, I'm with you on using metric for guide layout and other layout/spacing chores. Much easier to me not having to mess with fractional measurements. The ~$10 investment in a metric/English tape measure was worth it.

As a new builder I appreciate this thread and the feedback provided by the more experienced. A couple of related questions for you all: 1. In what sequence do you do Test Casting vs. Static Line Testing? To me I'm thinking I would get my prelim guide layout done using KR GPS (or regular GPS) and them some type of progressive spacing that feels right. Then go out and test cast and tweak the

Reached out to Batson and got some additional info that they had on some of their Immortal series. Added those into Spreadsheet. Also, Batson indicated they would be publishing info on new releases of Fly or high end freshwater blanks. Also added another new addition to the NFC lineup that has CCS data published. A blank in their Fly series called the LMX FAF763-4. Great to see manufactu

Good to see NFC adding CCS data with the info for one of their new blanks, the X-ray C602 SJ 703. Kudos to NFC. I encourage all manufacturers to do the same. Keep that info coming. I added this blank into our ever growing database. Below is the data entry for those not using the spreadsheet. Keep 'em coming. The more info the better and more useful when hunting for blanks. Don't forget that there is value in adding factory rods to the list. I own some of the 16' B&M Pro Staff Trolling Rods and have used them quite a bit for crappie fishing. The 16 footers are three piece rods. They are intended primarily for either longline trolling where you maybe don't want to use planer boards but you want to stagger your spread or use for the Spider rigging technique where you have rod holders up in bow of boat that fan out rods kind of li
