Spencer. I did do a search for catfish blanks but didn't find what I was looking for. Didn't think of searching a specific blank model. I did look at some musky blanks but what I have found so far is too long. I need a heavy jerk bait rod. I also need three of them.
I have zero saltwater blank experience. While line weight may mean something to someone, It doesn't give a sense of what lure we

Greetings.
I have a friend who wants me to build a heavy catfish rod for him. He is looking to pull big fish out of brush piles. He wants 6 to 6 1/2 foot range. Looking at Rainshadow Toughstck TS66MH. Wondering if it can handle 2 to 6 ounce weights?
Any advice is much appreciated!
Thanks...Kevin

I'm running Flex Coat for the CP and 9 RPM. Good to know I'm not the only one having issues with it.

Hi. Been using LS Supreme finish for sometime now. I like the long open time but how do you keep it from "footballing"? The cohesion factor on this seems very high. I have wiped off all the excess leaving brush marks until it evens out. Next morning I see it has pulled the finish off showing the some threads as left after the UV coating dried. Not a big deal as I only build for myself

Hi guys. I used Flex Coat color preserver with LS Supreme finish. I like to longer open time but had some darker coloring in my threads. I used a dark blue but had it go darker after applying the finish. The Flex Coat was applied heavy so I don't think it was dry. The CP was applied to makes sure any gap was full and filled in where the guide foot bent up. My conclusion is that the finish must ha

Does one need to use the same brand for color preserve and finish or should it work? Thanks...Kevin

Hi. Has anyone ever used the deflection chart? Did it help with guide spacing? Was it worth the money?
Thanks....Kevin

Greetings,
I'm looking to build a medium heavy bottom bounce walley rod. I'm looking for a 6'-6'6" moderate action blank. Most everything I find is 7' mod-fast if I'm lucky. Not looking to spend much more than $60 per blank.
My question: If I take a 7" mod-fast and cut off a foot from the butt, am I really making the blank more of a moderate action? I would think it would push t

Hi guys. I looking to build a couple of bottom bouncer rods. Nothing longer than 6'6". I find 7' blanks are hard on the wrist fising all day during our fly-in Canada trip. Would like a blank rated to 1 oz. Would also like a Medium action (I think). I find most heavy blanks don't have enough flex to fight big walleyes to my liking.
Any suggestions? What do you like?
Thanks...Kevin

Tim,
I use these all the time in Canada walleye fishing. However, I've only used in lakes not rivers. I use them with the curve forward (with the current). I expect if you turn it around, the current will cause it to turn around anyway.

Greetings,
I'm looking to build myself a heavy walleye bottom bouncer rod. Looking to use 3 to 4 ounce bouncers. I figure around 6 foot to help with the wrist. Any suggestions on blanks? I'm partial to St Croux but open to any suggestions.
Thanks...Kevin

I use 5 minute epoxy. A lighter will heat enough to break the bond if you need to repair. I had tips come loose just by having it in my truck topper.

Thanks for the info. I have built around 30 spinning rods but only 4 casting. Even then I cheated using the manufacture's guide spacing. Yes, these were my very first rods. I read everything I could before this setup but I learn better from doing or watching then I do by reading.

Mark,
I'm sure there are more listed on the left which carry this but I found it looking through Karen's website at Bingham Enterprises.

I haven't built one like this but looking at the specs, it looks like an American Heritage Fly blank is what you are looking for. With no mention of money, don't know if this helps but here you go.

Hi. Just finished my first spiral wrap. I built a Rainshadow RDR86M for line counter walleye crankbait trolling. Not sure if I got it right but the static test which I used for guide spacing looks good. Used two double foot guides for the 0 and 180 rings size 12 and 10. The 90 guide is a BNUG8. This kept the line close to the blank but it never touch in a deep bend. Everything else is an BLAG8 fl

Tried my first use of the Flex Coat spade bit last night. Just love how nicely it went through the foam. I didn't know about using the bit pulled backwards for the cork. I will have to try that. I did however, reverse the direction of the drill turning the bit in reverse. Worked much better.

27. Re: Decals
As long as the blank is gloss finished, I put it directly on the blank. If matte finished, I apply a coat of finish. Either way, I apply CP over it before applying the finish.

Hey Jim, went to the website. Didn't find the kit. Is this something special Bob is doing for you? Thanks.

Hi.
Now that St Croix has changed their handle kits, I need to find a replacement. Does anyone know of a spinning handle kit which uses skeleton reel seats with a cork spacer? Thanks for your time...Kevin

I built mine just like Tim but I use 3 steel balls all 1/2" in size. With 6 CCs of mix, the balls are completely covered. With 5 minutes of mixing, I have no trouble at all.
Just my experience...Kevin
