Heavier Catfish blank

Greetings.

I have a friend who wants me to build a heavy catfish rod for him. He is looking to pull big fish out of brush piles. He wants 6 to 6 1/2 foot range. Looking at Rainshadow Toughstck TS66MH. Wondering if it can handle 2 to 6 ounce weights?

Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks...Kevin

Kevin. If you had did a search on that blank, you would have had at least 16 posts the go through for your answer from differing sources. In short it will get the job done, but is pretty heavy, been an excellent choice for barndoor sized halibut for a longtime but because it's used on halibut it is also used as a boat rod. Have you thought of using one of the heavier powered musky, composite,or graphite saltwater blanks? Schneider to the left has a 6 ft. 3 in. XH musky blank on sale for a great price in their Hot Items section, listed pretty close to the top.

Spencer. I did do a search for catfish blanks but didn't find what I was looking for. Didn't think of searching a specific blank model. I did look at some musky blanks but what I have found so far is too long. I need a heavy jerk bait rod. I also need three of them.

I have zero saltwater blank experience. While line weight may mean something to someone, It doesn't give a sense of what lure weight they can handle.

The blank I mentioned is a jerkbait blank. Can't help you with more blanks, the public started moving to 7 - 9 ft. blanks 15 - 18 years ago.

One of these blanks would work very well for you.

You wanted a 2-6 oz blank so select the medium power rod.

These are 6'6" blanks which I would think to be perfect.

But, if you want a shorter rod, just saw off as much butt length from the blank as you wish to get to the length that you want.

Good luck
