31. Re: Pistol Grip
I have and have used several pre-shapped pistol grips, but I'd be game to make my own. Is there an existing article/recommendation? Seems like block cork would be needed and a custom method of turning and shaping?

34. Re: Help Wanted
I'm within 45 minutes of Newburyport and might be able to help to some degree, perhaps part time. Let me know. Email me?
edit: it just occurred to me though, that this might be against forum rules. Sorry Tom if that's the case.

I guess this is the cheapest way to get just the choke guide, until they figure out they can sell more for less alone.
Unfortunately that's all I will use out of this set as I prefer different running guides, so the ones that come with the set go to the dust collection bin.

I noticed Mudhole trying to copy my monster rod on the cover of their latest magazine for Halloween. Not bad! Heheheh

39. Telescopic rods
First of all, Nuno Paulino, wow! Fantastic build. Each time I try, I screw-up something - I've got a few out but I'm not happy with the results. I'm just not getting it, and would love a tip or tutorial on building telescopics the right way. I know they are not the most popular, but I think they have a market in my area. I also know they are probably easy to build, but for some reason I just

This is one of my favourite grips. I have a copy of the tutoriaI I can send you if you want - the pics didn't come out so good in the copy I have, but the text is ok. I had also found the following message some time ago, from Ray as well, describing the fixture. It might be here on this site, or in the archives. I also have other messages and pics from Rich Gassman who also made these very well.

Perfect timing Tom, as per usual, as this is just what I'm dealing with at the moment.
Another one would be telescoping rods.
Are there any new/past articles on building telescoping rods?
Seems 'compact' is the in-thing lately...
Which of course leads me to rod cases, tubes and such to store and carry them in.....

I bought 2 white blanks some time ago. I built-up one right away. The other was a slow build. I fitted components (grips, seat, checks...no guides yet) to it, but I had to put it aside to build other 'priority' rods. Well, I got back to it after a few months and notice a yellow/rust colored ring developed under the checks. They were the rubber type checks - I intended to replace them with alumi

From the article referenced below, your blank "... possesses a faster action than rods with lower AA figures and a slower action than rods with higher AA figures...".
Reference: , page 2, "Interpreting the DBI"
Check out the CCS data site to the left and top of this page for data examples from other builders. It's amazing to see how many blanks of the same model, action

The last time I was able to attend ICRBE was when you 1st came out with your small book/pamphlet on wraps. I'll be able to attend this year, finally, now with your 1st book on grips - yee ha!. I wish I had you sign the wrap pamphlet for me last time - maybe I can get you to sign a grip book for me this year? Anyway, good vid - by comparison you wouldn't be able to recognize me behind a lathe as I

Haven't read your article as yet, but would the stacked leather washers used in knife making work? I've bought 'em before for spacers in knife handles, though I don't know if they are as cost effective as the 'conchos; you reference above; but it looks like you can get 'em in bulk, at knifekits.com ; and there's other knife making shops you can them there too. I've only used them as spacers, but

56. IPS handle
Hello Friends,
I'm looking for instructions or tutorials for shaping a handle with cutouts to accept an IPS reel seat, similar to those once found on the CCW website by Ray Jorgensen (http://classiccustomwood.com/?page_id=667), or instructions from Rich Gassman (http://www.rodbuilding.org/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/5987/title/different-size-split-grips/cat/507) - the only 2 folks who I can

57. mb844
Don't know if it will arrive or not, but thanks to lance at swampland for trying to deliver the 2 mb844's to me. You have done your best to make it happen. We had a short spout of heavy rain, which I fished in flax pond after watching "river why" for the umpteenth time, as that flick gets met every-time! Anyway, its the calm before the storm, and it's all creepy white and quiet right no

Google "HOWARD BONBRIGHT fishing", there's an individual by this name known for his tarpon records and fly tying. If he was into fly tying he may have been into rod building as well....
EDIT: Oh duh, you said that didnt you....lol

By the way, I'm just north of you on the north shore MA. Are you Captain Rob, of the CJ Victoria?
