Can't you use a belt sander to shape block EVA if your looking for color?

As far as the ring is concerned I would be inclined to use SIC or SICNit 9 out 10 times but thats just out of superstition. Deep down, I think Hardloy can do pretty much anything SIC and SICnit can do at half the cost. I will comment though on the rest of the guide. I have noticed that on SIC and SICnit the rest of the guide is usually a bit higher quality than the rest of the guide on the Har

Scott, are you sure you were running the drill in the right direction?

A piece of scrap blank (depending on diameter needed) with emory cloth lightly glued and spiraled around it makes a wonderful drill attachment. If the butt is too big for a 1/2 in drill chuck, you can pc-11 a 1/2 in bolt to the butt and cutt the threads off with a hacksaw. Takes no time at all to ream a grip at 3000 rpm or so.

96. Re: @#$%& deals?
C and M Custom tackle is an @#$%& seller and one of my sources and I dont have any complaints. All the items I have received have been exactly as described. Wide selection and fair prices.

Bruce, I also like to grind the bottom of the guide foot, especially on saltwater guides with two feet. It allows the guide to sit flatter on the blank and makes a better "ramp" for the thread. This work well especially with A thread which doesnt cover as much territory as C or D.

Brad, I've never used cork but maybe it would be better to use something else for the rear. Something like hypalon and then use the cork as a foregrip.

You can file off the finish/thread on top of the guide feet until they are exposed and just pull them off. Then all you have to worry about is getting a hold of one of the threads and pulling on it till the whole wrap is off. It might take a few tries because the thread is severed on top but eventually it all comes off. Use 600 grit sandpaper to smoothen the surface. Clean with alcohol and le

I've applied finish that I've had for 2 or 3 years and had no problems. The resin gets thick but nothing a little heat with a hair dryer wont take care of.

104. Re: Eva fore grip
I did that once with an old Ugly Stik. Cut the old one off, re-prepare the surface and cut the new one. I used a brand new blade so that the cut would be clean and opened up the new grip and popped it on, you'll be surprised at how it looks, you can hardly see the incision. It will never look like a regular grip installation but if your not ready to remove the guides - its the only way I think

I use loose fitting rubber butt caps over mine, when your about to set a hook just pull it off or if your trolling just pull it off when a fish lands. I have a fiberglass center console and theres not a scratch on it but I dont know about wood decks. Is it finished wood? The nylon gimbal is pretty hard and might scratch it anyway.

I'll try that Jay, thanks. I dont think I'll sleep at night until that thing is straight.
I like the weight argument on the aluminum butt, I built a rod for my dad and he didnt want to cast it because he thought it was going to go flying out of his hands and into the water....yeah.....Happy Father's Day Pop!! Hope your a good diver

I gotta check, I wonder if Stuart sells the ferrule by itself, if so, I'm inclined to sacrifice the 3 inches and cut off and start again.
thanks Tom!

Tom, I think I worded it the wrong way. the ferrule will not move at all, it's a snug fit, what I mean is that it set up and cured - not perfectly straight. The wobble (probably the wrong word) is in reference to the whole assembly not being perfectly straight. The ferrule is locked into place and isnt going anywhere but if you put the rod on a lathe and rolled it you would notice the imperfec

While you gentlemen are on this topic I was wondering if anyone has had a ferrule not set up poperly, or should I say perfectly on the blank. Last night I attached a Stuart ferrule to an 30-80 blank, I used fiberglass rings to center the ferrule but there was a little "play" between the rings and the ferrule. I didnt think I would have any wobble in it when I checked it this morning b

111. Re: Porgy blank
Bill, Kencor has a blank called the Panga/Zibra, one of the models is 5'10" (I cut mine down 5'8") 9/64 tip and .820 butt, 10 -40 line rate. its graphite with fiberglass spiraled around it from butt to tip. I havent finished mine yet but I think the blank is perfect unless your fishing the deep water high current like the gents above mentioned. I'm used to northern shore LI NY where

Cliff, Captiva reels are not the only Penn's not made in the USA. The Spinfisher and some other reels are or will be made in China in the future. I was at Bass Pro the other day and held one (spinfisher) in my hand but it didnt feel quite right, when I turned it upside down, there was a nice little sticker that said China, I handed it right back to the person at the counter and walked away.
