Hello out there,
I am curious about the general shelf life of epoxy coating components how we use it for the wrappings, considered we keep it in a "normal" temperatured place (that means no cooking or freezing). RGDS, Ole Re: Shelf life of epoxy coatings

With the coatings I buy the hardener starts to turn yellow in about 3 months and continues to darken with age.. The bottles say something regrding a 1 yr shelf life. I would say that if your epoxy doesn't start to change colors on you, your still in good shape.. both should be clear ! ~

I've applied finish that I've had for 2 or 3 years and had no problems. The resin gets thick but nothing a little heat with a hair dryer wont take care of. Re: Shelf life of epoxy coatings

There is no appreciable shelf life for these epoxies. They will set up and cure properly even after many decades. They don't "go bad."
As far as the hardener turing amber, yellow or brown, most will do that over a few months (and will continue to do this even once mixed and applied to your rod) but it does not indicate that anything is wrong or that your epoxy has gone bad in any way. But again, if they turn in the bottle, they will also turn once on the rod so throwing out epoxy because the hardener has yellowed is really a waste of time - whatever portion of that product that you have on your rod is also turning yellow at the same time. ................ ... I had once the stuation that one of the components became a matte white flocky substance on teh bottom of the bottle (approx. 50% became hard, 50% stayed as was) but maybe I put additionally just one drop of the other substance in.

Epoxy resin tends to crystalize over time, particularly if it is kept very cool or cold. But it harms nothing and is quite normal. You just heat the resin in a pan of hot water or zap it in the microwave for a few seconds and it will return to like new condition.
