I did that once with an old Ugly Stik. Cut the old one off, re-prepare the surface and cut the new one. I used a brand new blade so that the cut would be clean and opened up the new grip and popped it on, you'll be surprised at how it looks, you can hardly see the incision. It will never look like a regular grip installation but if your not ready to remove the guides - its the only way I think.

I have stretched the fore grip I.D. over the largest guide (Sz 10 df) on a casting rod before, preping the EVA grip I.D. to be as large as possible prior to the attempt. I used a small standard screw driver, leveraged over the high point, water . Now a large spinning guide..right out, would not even attempt it. aaaa maybe with recoil guides

Bill,
I have good luck using the one side slice method, with the addition of wrapping the OD tightly with black plastic electrician's tape.
Just be carefull not to use too much epoxy, we use Flex Coat.
Also, the ID should not be any larger than the blank OD at that point, and a little under is better.
After it is set up, remove the tape and a little sanding with med grit "screen" usually blends the seam so it is hardly noticable.

Best wishes,
Ron Schneider

Not sure about the extent of the damage but you could remove most of the foregrip and sand it down in front of the reel seat leaving just a "button" fore grip.
