Tom and Russ, Thank you for your time. I'm not sure how to post photos but I'll attempt tomorrow. Those rods were "about my time" which is why I am excited about them. Mark Talmo

Thanks for taking the time, Tom. While not pristine, I would give it an honest 90-94. Sure would like to know how old it is. Mark Talmo

Now that I have your attention, yes, I am offering a lot of 10 vintage rods and two old spinning reels to one of you. But here’s the deal. #1) I need help identifying the circa, value and one part for the three rods I am keeping of the original lot of 13. The one of you who assists me the most and / or I like most gets the lot of 10. Be forewarned though, if Roger Wilson is interested in this off

While not related to shelf life, I have another question regarding CP. I have heard CP restricts the epoxy finish from penetrating the thread fibers as well as if no CP were used. Has anyone experienced related issues? Thanks, Mark Talmo

And a glorious, good day to all you happy wrappers, and a previous thank you for those responding. This is only my third post as I am new to wrapping yet a long time (OK, old) fisherman. I have built one ultralight trout spinning rod, one 10-30 lb Black Diamond Hybrid bait casting saltwater rod, restored two other saltwater rods, as well as numerous guide replacements for friends when they learn

Additional sincere thanks are due to Michael, Randy and Nick for their assistance and input. Nick, don't be so hard on yourself, you ARE helping. I have yet to contact United Composites, but certainly will. Randy, while I am not afraid of static testing and have utilized the procedure, being a newbie, I question my ability to do so precisely. I am probably being too critical of myself but am pret

Nick and Russell, Thanks for the additional input. I could not agree more with Nick regarding matching the rod to the situation rather than what is best or better. An inexpensive rod and reel matched to the type of fishing will usually out-fish an unmatched high dollar combo. While I do not toss iron as much as live bait (sardines, mackerel, squid), I am pretty much set on a 9ft rather than 8

Sincere thanks to Frank, Russell, Barry and Nick for responding. Admittedly, never heard of Rainshadow before but will certainly research them further. I am certainly not the most intelligent or informed, but cannot ignore a 4-for-4 count! Thank so so much, guys!!!! Mark T.

At the risk of opening an unending debate, what do you guys consider the best, all-around, 10-40 lb, rod for Yellowtail, WSB, Calico and the occasional Tuna and Dorado while fishing the islands off SoCal? I had two Calstar rods made for me 30 years ago (before I realizing the benefits and satisfaction of building my own), but they are bigger and more for south-of-the-border trips. Now that I am f

I just finished building my first rod and am quite pleased with the results. Thanks for the help from all who assisted, especially Roger Wilson. While I have seen many exposed blank casting reel seats, I have never seen one for a spinning rod. Is ones thumb too numb compared to fingers? I am considering machining a bit of the top of a spinning reel seat to expose about one inch of the blank but

Jay, Check out sollercomposites.com. I purchase all my 100 yd rolls of CF and Kevlar from them and have had the need for their biaxial woven hybrid CF/Kevlar sleeves from time to time (not for a rod as yet). Their sleeving options of fabrics, hybrids, colors, and three different weights is pretty dang extensive. Tell Jon, the owner, Craftsman Tech Composites referred you. MT

Jay, Again, I am new to rod building yet old to composites and haven't used composite sleeving for a rod yet. I would imagine the light fabric would be preferd as the heavy, especially the hybrid CF / colored fiberglass, can be pretty dang stiff. Mark T.

While new to the world of rod building, I am old to the world of composites. Assuming you and previous responders are referring to rigid woven carbon fiber / epoxy pieces and not the relatively new type CF designed to be sewn for apparel or what-have-you of which I have no experience, need or desire, you can make your own grips or add CF accents yourself. Although the epoxy used of rod building i

I am a longtime fisherman, first time rod builder, and new to your website and the world of rod building. Thank you for taking the time to read my post and hopefully assist. Please allow me to briefly introduce myself and wrapper / dryer unit before asking a few questions to experts like you. Being a fabricator of many medias and end products, as well as a weekend and want-to-be machinist, it is
