Thanks Ron, I was having a problem with my decals and having to put more coats on than really needed just to get the resin to stay on the surface of the decal. I will try this.

1172. Re: Casting guides
Scott,
I usually do spiral wraps on my casting rods. I like the Fuji K and KB series guides for runners to the Tip Top. and an RV or LC double footed guides for the stripper (closest guide to reel). I use the RV (#6) guide on rods shorter than 6'10" and for 7'+ I use the LC. This is because of the height of the guide. The taller guide works better when the distance is shorter to the reel.

Michel,
I have handled the eternity blanks and prefer slightly more stiffness in the body or backbone of the blank. I want it to load fast, get to the water with little effort and lift off easily. I love most of the Batson products as well as admire Bill Batson for his passion in this industry. I like the Sage Method or the TFO BVK. My next 5 weight build will be on one of these with a heavy le

I turn cork on a lathe off the blank. Natural cork will sometimes have flaws that you can't see until it is turned. Also sometimes it will be there but just below the surface where you can't tell. A weak area that can crack through with just a little pressure. The act of reaming the finished cork will usually expose this in the fact that it will break in these areas before it is mounted on the b

Thanks for posting. I am always looking for quality thread and this looks great. On the site link they even have a color matching tool. This makes picking color combinations easy with side by side viewing.

Spiral wraps are like heroin. Once you start you can't stop. Thats because they work on micro guides and micro guides, although uninentionally, were made to be spiral wrapped on casting rods. The reason that is: you don't have to use as many guides as on the bottom of the blank to keep it off the blank as you would on top; If you want to cast farther you have to keep the line off the blank; The s

I almost always use 3 coats of high build. I preheat the resins prior to mixing, thinning it with heat. It seems to come out nice and smooth like that.

1178. Re: Rod Blanks
I like building casting rods especially spiral wrap on designated spinning blanks. As Mr Campbell stated the tip is a little softer. Also the length is usually different on the same model of blank except it will be for spinning. The butt is typically smaller than the casting model. If the blank has what you are looking for dimensionally and feels good, don’t worry about what the manufacturer has

Tim,
Here is some good R&D done on spinning rod guides. I think you can get something out of this.
