This was my first expo experience and it was amazing! I really enjoyed the seminars that I attended especially Captain Mike's carbon-fiber grips and Morris's wood turning. I "stole" a graphite surf rod blank from Mudhole in their $1.49 a foot closeout center first thing Saturday morning. I am going to build it for my father-in-law's birthday present. Bought myself a St. Croix Avi

Thanks for the help! Not too worried about rod weight as this will be used mainly for bait and wait.

Looking for a surf blank 11 to 12 foot for using 5 to 7 ounce sinker plus bait for obx drum around Duck area . Right now I have an Allstar 1266 for light bait or throwing metals so I need another rod to handle more weight when those ideal drum fishing north winds create a strong current. Does anyone use the Hook and Hackle FTX fast tip line of blanks? I am looking to build a nymph rod as well and they look pretty good for the price and warranty.

I have the same 966 Lamiglas fly rod in a solid yellow color blank which I find great to use fishing for bream and small bass with dry flies and small poppers. The yellow blanks have value but not nearly as much as the translucent honey colored S blank. I am considering on using perma gloss to refinish using a sponge brush. Like to know Jesse how the spar urethane works out for you.

I have a Optimum 8/9 which I use a Cortland 280gr 10wt shooting head and it works well for me bass fishing. For $100 I can get 2 blanks to make 2 rods which is even better than just having an extra tip.Having a warranty on these priced blanks are moot when most manufactures require $25 for shipping and handling then a wait.I am sure there is better blanks that are made in the USA like the Fly Logi

I am in the process of replacing guides on my 9wt fly rod with pac bay titanium guides,a 16 and 12 double foots,a 10 single and 8's for the running guides. They all needed prepping for the feet but it does not take long to do it with sand paper. Also don't have to worry about taking off the protective coating as they are solid like you said. The double foot guides light casting series is very light
