Finding a 1 piece 8 ft popping rod blank has been tough but I did see Hydra makes a 7'10" which is close enough. Might find something at the ICRBE. Figured a rod labeled up to 1/2 oz lure mod fast action should work.

I sure wouldn't mind finding an 8ft 1 piece blank that would quick load around a 9 weight for short accurate cast with big flies from a kayak for bass and red drum.

I used Permagloss on my Rod Geeks xcomp neon green blank using black thread in size A and it turned out nice. I wanted something tough and muted because the neon green is bold enough. I put 3 coats on and it is certainly usable but I still want to use about 2 more coats just give it a little more depth. The only downside I see in using it is if the guides need replacing down the road it will mor

This will be my third time going and judging by the list of vendors attending this looks like it will be the best one yet.Don't know which one I am going to hit up first.

Check out the Shimano Spheros SW in 5000 to 8000 in size depending on needs.I bought a barely used demo 5000 for a good price and it is perfect for surf fishing. It holds about 275 yards of 14 fire line fuse braid on it and appropriate lb shock leader. I have used up to 7 and bait with no issues but I also use and recommend with any spinning reel casting heavy weight is the breakaway canon castin

Definitely a Shimano fan, I use a 5000 spheres sw ,which is one tough but smooth spinning reel, on one of my surf rods and a Symetre ultra light for trout. I noticed the new Symetres now have the x ship and 15lb max drag on the 3000, I may take a look at one of those for my next inshore rod.But I am also a fan of Daiwa,Penn and some of the Okumas. Thanks for the info.

Red drum in the OBX sounds from a kayak. Typically slot or slightly smaller is the usual catch but there is always the chance of a big bull. Right now I am using an older model Tica Libra 2500 on a rod rated to 15lb line. At what line, lure or conditions do you prefer a bait caster over spinning?

Has Lamiglas pricing gone down on the Infinity blanks or has every other manufacture of nano resin rod blanks gone up since there introduction. I wish I would of checked out the Infinity blanks when Lamiglas was at the ICRBE.

Great conversation and debate going here! I am like you Norm and use my left hand for retrieving even with baitcasting reels.I have more control of the rod with my dominate right hand. One guy at an OBX tackle shop must of thought I was a little crazy to have a LH baicaster when I took it there to get it filled with line. He said that was the first LH that he has seen there. Which reel sizes wo

Looks very similar to Pac Bays ready form grips which are molded to the exact shape of the grip to eliminate surface voids from sanding a handle to the shape from a foam blank. Saw these at the last ICRBE, looks like a good product which I hope to try out soon. m

Any chance a seminar will go over rods for kayak fishing and also CCS measuring and how the values relate to the ideal use for the rod blank? Looking forward to this coming expo.

Did you meant spinning style? What is the model of reel to be used?

You are going to really enjoy it! This will be my third time and I can't wait. Being able to handle the rod blanks and components is way more insightful than just seeing specs on a website. Plus the seminars are priceless in information. You want to get to the door at least 10 minutes before they open to be near the front of the line. The last ICRBE I went straight to Rod Geeks as they had a few x

The 733 is rated up to 10oz from a boat but for pier I would say gentle underhand lob 8oz tops. Mine did not have an issue with 6.The 732 probably fine up to 6oz. Are you going to the ICRBE?

I would rather have a blank break before building it up than after on a fish. I would get any info such as top size, butt and weight then post some pics on here.

Mainly Jennettes pier in October for me. Seems about every time we go down the surf is unpredictable with the weather so I use anywhere from 3 to 7oz to hold bottom using a 2 hook dropper rig or fish finder. I handled all of the x comp blanks at this years ICRBE, the 732 would of been the one to cover most situations for me but they had the 733 neon green available at a price that I couldn't tur

Hey Mark sounds like you need schedule 200 pipe. Ace hardware should have it.

Yeah I got the idea seeing the Abel rod case bc it does not roll around like a pipe case. The fence post is much thinner than sec40 pvc but still quite strong. I can fit a good amount of rods in it, surely more than I can put in a 5 inch pipe. I just use duct tape to secure the post caps on both ends, but next year I am going to work installing latches and a carry handle.

I agree with Tom, I really like St Croix Avid 11ft that I built which is 70:30. It was easier to set up and wrap the guides on one section instead of a 50:50 surf rods that I have built. Also would think it would easier to replace grips and reel seat if it's needed down the road not having a guide on that section. 8ft section is as long as I want to travel with though. I bought a 8 ft section of

Sorry Brad I should of clarified that the 733 might not be ideal for your dad's use but for durability with performance the x comps are a good choice. Also the the neon bright color that you get them in sure makes it easier to see in dim light conditions.

Take a look at the Rod Geeks Xcomp rod blanks. I built a XC733 17-30lb rod this year for pier bottom fishing but its also great for many other inshore purposes as well.

Looking for a rod blank that has more power than the 8-14lb spinning popping rod for going after red drum in small waterways lined with thick grass. .I fish mainly using cork with Gulp shrimp on jig, jigs and spinnerbaits. I am thinking that a casting reel would give me more control in these conditions. Looking at Hydra NG mag bass, Anglers Workshop 10-20 spin jig, liberty mag bass 10-17 and Blac

Steffen Brothers I put a word in to Rod Geeks about a year ago that they should make some fiberglass fly rods using their S glass But they have been busy putting out many rod models since that I am sure are in higher demand. If you are willing to go e glass there are many more companies to chose from and affordable. Since you like Fenwick google James Green fly rod blanks.

Is that Shimano spinning reel sizing? What kind of line and lb test do you plan on using with it? Do you fish in areas that sometimes have seaweed depending on conditions,?If you do you might want to go with size 6 as the smallest.

Looking forward to the ICRBE I see some vendors that I haven't seen there such as Anglers Workshop and Composite Developments that I want to check out. Hopefully Rod Geeks will come back again to this one as well.

Watching the videos of people slow pitch jigging really looks like an addictive way to fish. Maybe one of the New Zealand manufactures might have an ideal blank. I noticed that Composite Developments will be at the ICRBE and I am anxious to know what they will bring as well as CTS. Another manufacture that might have something is Jaws
