I wanting to build a fly rod and wanted your opinions on fly guides. Whats the difference when using single foot vs traditional snake guides, pro-cons?

You cant go wrong with a Batson blank, great quality and great service. I have to agree that Carol is excellent to work with, all my Batson gear comes from her.

One other option is to use paint used on boat finishes, it has the glossy protective finish already in color.

I have used Createx paints and painted with an airbrush set with success. As noted earlier prep the blank prior to painting and again prior to spraying your clear. It was a lot of trial and error on my part firguring what paint and sealer combo to use. After thinking about it I decided to airbrush, just for the fact that i can control the amount of paint going on the blank thus lessening the amou

There is a lot of threads on balancing, I beleive you have to select "All Dates" under option and it will pull a bunch of stuff in. Funny is I found that out today while doing a hopeless search on painting blanks. Heres a link:

Should I sand teh existing finish and stay away from solvents? If do what grit? Ive read a fair amount on painting the blanks, but never heard of Awlgrip. I have to check that out.

17. Painting Blank
I was pondering painting a blank white and wanted some input in to how I should go about doing it. The blank in quesiton is painted and was wondering if I should strip the current finish or just paint over it. I know painting is another issue, but Im hoping your comments will shed some light for me.

Ken,
Can you post on conventional setup, I can use that as a base to work off of. I though about calling Batson, but figured if I posted it would leave a reference for someone else to use. This will be an Ulua "giant trevally" pole for fishing in Hawaii.

I was wondering if anyone had built on this blank before. I looked up the rod spacing section on Batson, but that section has had no updates. Im looking to wrap this for a buddy soon, but I cant imagine where to start without without some hint on the guide spacing.

I got anxious and just wrapped it black with metalic gunmetal, looks OK but nothing that says wow. I tell you this blank color really throws me off. I think I stick to the SCIV blanks, the cobalt blue look so much better.

It was "Factory Made", I just saw it 5 minutes ago. It looked like St Croix's factory, I recognized the cobalt blue color on the LTB blank.

I tried the metalic blue and it popped out too much, its not dark enough. I'll take a look at the aquamarine, I guess its another trip to the shop.
