I have completely stripped an old rod down for refinishing. What are the options available to put color back on the rod? Re: Blank Coloring

Hi Richard,
There has been a few of these lately so do a search and you''ll come up with a lot. I prefer two pack automotive paint as it has got flex additives which will help. I get my local panel beater to do mine as they've got the setup to do it safely and properly as two pack is toxic. If you go that way get a coat of clears on top to provide a bit of extra protection to the colour. You'll have plenty of options if you do a search, so you can pick what suits you best. Richard,
Do the Loomis thing: Polish it with 600 wet and dry sand paper and after finishing the rod and letting the finish dry, put on a nice coat of wax and call it good. Roger Re: Blank Coloring

As Col said above 2K auto finish is as close as "regular" guys can get to the factory finish and nearly just as tough. If you look at auto paint suppliers online you will see any color you can think of is made or can be made. See thru, candys, Metallics, solids, pearls and on and on.. I do my own and Truth be told the painting is the talent part but the prep is the key and most important part!! Re: Blank Coloring

One other option is to use paint used on boat finishes, it has the glossy protective finish already in color. Re: Blank Coloring

Ii have used the Automotive paint "Chameleon" It turns different colors from different angles.. It is very unusual to see a fishing rod do that. send me an e-mail for more info.
