Has anyone used Metal Clay for winding checks, Butt Caps or any other decorative means to embellish a custom rod. If so where did you get it. I under stand it comes in Gold, Silver, Bronze and copper. Thank for any info. Good Wraps Bob Re: Metal Clay

Bob, as metal clay must be fired at high temperature (650 degrees+) to finish and it shrinks by as much as 30%, I'm not sure how you could make it work. You certainly could not do it on the blank! Re: Metal Clay

If you can make parts off the rod, and then do a little fine machining, I would assume this could be a viable rod building product. Will have to take a hard look at it. I'm glad Bob brought it back up again.
I think JP Timberlake has done some work with it. .......... Re: Metal Clay

From what I have read, You can do it in a standard oven or even a blow torch will work. My idea is to design logos, initials or winging checks then attach them. The items I have seen on U tube are as thin as a sheet of paper and weigh nothing. I just want to know where I can find it. Like at a craft store. I just did not want to go on line and buy it. I think there is a potential for a new item that creative builders could use Good Wraps Bob Re: Metal Clay

I very much doubt you can use a home cooking oven. From what I know of the materials 650 degrees is the lowest temp suitable for some of the clays. A blowtorch could work if it did not "blow" the molten material.
Let us know if you experiment and your results. Could add some bling! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
