I tried my first abalone wrap and I messed it up royally. thankfully it was on my personal rod. however i do have to do one for a friends rod. I tried the heatgun method and it didn't work for me. it cracked almost instantly. I suppose it wasn't warm enough. any tricks would be grateful. thanks

Roger just did a couple of arbors and it worked out PERFECTLY! just saved me a bunch of headaches since this is my first time with eva. would you recommend u-40 rod bond or flex coat builders? next time I will measure more carefully. and this will let me do my butt wrap under the foregrip and put a winding check on for a clean look.

im makin a striper rod and im using eva for the first time. I miss measured on the size and now I have one that is way too tight and one that is too loose. I don't have a reamer for the tight one. can I use tape arbors or should I just build it up with thread. its prob a good 1/16 at the reel seat and a lil more up the blank. foregrip is gonna be about 6 or 7 inches. thanks

for the most part I have mostly built on cork. gonna make a rod for myself using hypalon. only thing is that I haven't worked with it yet. the rear grip that I have is good just a lil too thick for what im looking for. what grade do I start with and finish with. I heard on here that using denim for a shine at the end works well. how far does hypalon expand? im using u-40 just wondering how much t

I used lumiseal for the first time and like the way it came out. when I wrapped my guide, I didnrt like the way it came out so i re did it. when i took it off i can see where the thread imbedded into the lumiseal. is this normal? i thought it hardens totally. it has been drying for a couple weeks. does polyurethane do the same? i want to try poly on my next rod. does it crack when the rod bends?

I was thinkin about makin a wood handle for a flukin rod. im a big fan of old school stuff and want to replicate some of the handles I have collected. what kind of wood would be best? the lightest for flukin? I checker shotgun stocks too and make clam bats with checkering on them. is this practical? thanks

I have built a couple fluke rods with spirals and now I want a striper/cod rod with spiral. I heard that it mite "pull" the 2nd guide off the blank since the pressure will be on the side of the insert. does this happen with the heavier rods? I try to transition the line fast to the underside so I tend to use less guides. for fluke rods its not bad but just curious about the heavier rods

I just coated a rod for the first time with lumiseal. it feels like its a bit soft. does it stay this way? how do I harden it? when I let It dry in the cup it peeled right out of it. is this right? its not real warm in the basement but it did dry to the touch. I put on 2 coats and it looks good enough to stop there. thanks Greg

I have a couple light fluke rods that are spiral wrapped with a level wind reel. would it matter if I have a penn 4/0 w/o levelwind on a 7ft striper rod that is spiral wrapped? I don't mind moving line with my thumb but will it consistently stay on one side of the reel? Thanks

I have seeker 748 in 7 ft which I think is now the inshore light. at least that's what ive been told. I use this for striper and blackfish. I wrapped it a long time ago and decided to do something different. when I took off the under wrap u see where the old epoxy was. I don't want to use such a long underwrap and gonna turn it into a spiral wrap. should I paint the blank? I don't want to. what
