i just stripped a shimano tallus rod that i have because the epoxy was cracking. after removing the underwrap, it felt like it was alot bigger than A thread. really felt like C. does this have an advantange? is it worth it? every rod that i built for saltwater, so far, has A size underwrap and no prob's so far. thanks Re: C size for underwrap?

Hi Greg,
Probably used size C because it's easier and faster for production rods. If you've had no problems then keep doing what you've been doing. I use Madeira, similar size to A, for both under and overbinds and haven't had any issues on any of my saltwater rods. ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Re: C size for underwrap?

Greg, in my experience, the only disadvantage to using size "A", is that when replacing guides is that you need to lightly remove any small amounts of epoxy from the blank before re-wrapping or the "A" thread will not lay uniformally on the blank. A light buffing with scouring pad works for me. If top-end qualitiy isn't a major concern, I use Pro Wrap D, which is equivalent to the old Guberod "D" with good success.
