There are a ton of small diameter, high power jigging rods now. Jigging Master is most likely the brand that you are looking for. The others listed are good blanks as well. CTS has some VERY small diameter blanks; 5'6" 80-100# line rated is under 4oz for the blank weight.

17. Re: shark rod
What MHX blank would you recommend for shark fishing????
Are you doing lang based sharking or from a boat?
For targetting big sharks from a boat, I would go with a Calstar 6455XXH or Seeker 6455XXH in E glass, Boomer Jr. From Calstar, Seeker TSF55XXH. Or a composite version of one of those blanks. Guides, you can use ringed guides (Turbo style or Fuji HB style) if you want, or roller g

Maybe measure the butt OD and the tip size and length and see what is close?? Can't tell on the reel seat, needs better pics.

19. Re: pro wrap
IIRC, the Pac Bay and Fish Hawk metallics do this as well, but to varying degrees. The Robinson Anton J Metallics don't do this and are much easier to work, but they are more limited in color choices.

I would use a 20 or 25mm stripper, depending on your reel size and how much drag you will use. You want to have some clearance and keep the line off the blank and foregrip. From there, I usually use size 12's for the transition guides and running guides. I did one of these last spring as a spiral and used 2 transition guides, and the first 180 degree guide was offset slightly and then 4 guides

He is talking about the laser cut out fish decals. I don't think Kev does those yet. His stuff would be easier to cut, but that would be the difficult part for someone else to do possibly.
Just be careful taking the backer off and heat them up and apply. They crack MUCH less than larger pieces of abalone do and are much easier than using the heat and roll abalone. I do them all of the ti

I used a razor blade to separate the backing paper from the adhesive and place on the blank. I use a heat gun to soften the fish decal and then roll around the blank using a thread burnishing tool just like you would with the heat and roll abalone. I then wrap over the decal with thread until it cools. They wrap around the blanks easier than the regular heat and roll sheets do, but not quite

I've been using Kevins Tachy-MOP since the Spring/Summer, awesome stuff!!! Very easy to wrap around, even small blanks!

Gimbals prevent the rod itself from flipping on a conventional rod, yes, but that is only one of their purposes, not their only purpose! On a conventional rod, the guides/blank may still twist over even if the butt is held in place by the gimbal, so the gimbal only holds the reel portion upright. Gimbals are also used so someone can use a fighting belt to gain more control over the rod and figh

The gimbal is not for rod twist, it's so people can use a fighting belt. Are these for sailfish possibly? They may be trolling out of a rod holder, then switching tp using a gimbal belt when hooked up.

I love the Batson blanks! The RCJB84XH and RCBT56H are some very nice blanks! I've built on some of the freshwater and saltwater stuff, very nice. Merrick Tackle is a good supplier as well; I usually get my orders the next day being only 1 state away. They carry a wide range of products, too!

I ordered a bunch and they were pretty decent quality. I also mixed them with rubberized and burls to make little split grip pieces. In general, the handle with the SP3 rings were the same if not nicer overall than some of the preshaped cork grips.

Some people cast to Stripers, some troll, some jig, some snap wire, etc. Lots of different rods! Also look at the Mudhole E glass blanks, too. Around $30 IIRC? I have built on the Gorillas and they appear to be a Lamiglas blank, their solid tip International line IIRC; some of mine came with the Lami product number stickers on them still :) Calstar makes a nice blank, American Tackle now has

Use the Mesh drywall tape. I mark out where the reel seat will go, scuff the blank and inside of the reel seat, and then wrap the mesh drywall tape around the blank. Most Saltwater heavy duty reel seats will get 3 arbors with the tape, pretty much solid under the reel seat. I test fit one, making sure I pull the tape tight each layer I do and that the reel seat fits over tightly. Then I do th

They have wider and deeper hoods and will accommodate large reel feet, but with smaller reels, there may be too much wobble. Mudhole has their Project X reel seat in blue/silver that has more normal sized hoods that may work. What reel are you using?
