Does this one have the flat bed or the round rails?

I will give Mr. Moody the benefit of the doubt but have to wonder. Yes the light was a little lower than last year in the lower hall with the white walls and floor but it was a far sight from a "cave." It just seems that every year somebody wants to rag on what is arguably the only large scale rod building event in the world. Many have tried to duplicate it and they have all failed big

My take was that it was great!!! I liked the layout with the crossways aisles on either end. Made it easy to get around. Also the seminar rooms with the hard walls were quieter than any you've had in the past. Much easier to hear the presenter without all the noise coming in from the main show area. Didn't really notice any problem with the lighting just thought it was a more upscale hall with a

It seems like some did in the past but lately not. But all you have to do is ask Johnny to send you the correct ferrules for the blank. He has those made especially for his blanks and they are very nice looking and highly functional. They have an expensive look to them.

Johnny is having a big sale on his Presidential bamboo blanks and rods. Also on his glass spey rods. He said he was going to post here but until then I will mention it.

Do what you need to do to get the colors you desire and don't worry about wrap strength. It will be fine no matter what. Nylon is brighter and sparkly and NCP is more flat.

A dirty trick maybe but imitation is also the sincerest form of flattery. Plus anybody that looks up any form of the phrase 'rod building expo' will get a result that points them to THE Expo.

I called about the AAA deal but was told that due to the high occupancy that weekend no AAA discounts would be honored. Hotel rates are always based on demand on any given date so I am not surprised. I went with the expo rate and got the free breakfast at the embassy.

Some cut and some do not. But the best way to find out which way works best for you is to try both! I ended up learning to cut my threads to length and then some and run them with the far ends free. Not only did it reduce twist and tangles but allowed me to work with less spools of thread on hand. I have wrapped eight bands of a single color at one time and if you do not cut the strands then you

One things for sure- this would be the one and only forum where you can discuss things out in the open and not be attacked or flamed. Not perfect but surely the most civil and engaging rod building there has ever been.

No I don't have the fancy smancy decal machines. I still hand write on the rod blank. But my previous best paint pen by Crayola is no longer available locally. What other good pens with a sharp point have you guys found to work well? Need white color mostly.

I recognize the importance of being consistent in how the measurements are taken. I think you and James made the point very well so I won't go into that portion of it. But I would add that the idea that the portion of the blank that is covered by the handle is not somehow relevant in terms of action and power is erroneous. I would bet that when Anglers Resource take the whatever measurements, the

The working length or the amount of blank that comes into play is its total length. If the part behind the seat or fighting hand don't count, then just cut the rod off behind the reel seat and try using it that way. A couple people here have already pointed that out. You use the rod length all the way to the butt cap not just a portion of it. Besides the CCS measures the whole blank and has a con

The bigger problem upcoming that I see, is that since the CCS coined the terms ERN and Intrinsic Power and uses them for power ratings, a builder may see that rating one of your blanks and think your measurement is a regular CCS measurement. Then he buys it, gets it, finds it's not quite what he thought, checks it with his own CCS measurement and finds a different Intrinsic Power rating than wha

I figured there was a good reason not to go with the foam. I think I am going to run the ERN numbers on it an inch back from the tip and proceed from there. Thanks for all the good advice.

I am sure this has been discussed before and I am sure there is a valid reason not to do it, but I have a medium power rod blank that is almost perfect if it was just a little bit stiffer. If I added some of the expanding foam into the butt and let it rise, shaved it even and then put the butt cap back on, would that not add a little stiffness to the blank? I know it will add some small amount of

I am toying with trying to make one of the foamed core carbon skin grips for a fly rod. My question is how stable is the unit? In other words, if I use this in very, very cold weather, or later in very, very hot weather, are the carbon and the core likely to separate if one shrinks or swells more than the other due to the temperature change? I figure these have been out there long enough now that

I was not aware you could still buy them. I like them in the #20 size. No nuts or threads for your hand to fall on.

Is this the save "Sam Moore" who was just banned on Tackle Tour for similar trolling? Or about a half dozen other fishing sites for the same stuff. He may not know how to build a rod he sure knows how to TROLL. You guys are being played.

I was trying to follow some instructions from a magazine I take on another subject non related to custom rod building. It kept flipping shut. The pages would roll up and then would flip over. I had to set a coffee cup on the thing to keep it open and that covered up part of the info and then just as you might think the mag flipped again and dumped coffee everywhere. PO Got to thinking about ho

For Tom, would it be possible to bring back the series on full size templates for rod grips in Rodmaker? I really enjoyed the series and have kept all the templates. Would love to have more. Thanks.

I am trying to source this material for use in coloring epoxy perfectly white. Was told that any paint store would have it but I have had zero luck in finding it there. Any ideas? Is it still made?

It seems like a great deal. But there is something to consider that no one has brought up.... yet. I find the best jaws for all around rod building lathe chores to be spigot jaws. These close down far enough that you can mount 1/4" mandrels or hold small items for boring. The trick is finding a chuck that lets you use spigot jaws for these chores but keep them on and spin the chuck open

Very high quality too. Much better than any of the fishing magazines I get. The mailing cover, the heavy bright slick paper and studio grade photography are a bonus to the great information and articles.
