I didn't find the BFHP "system" much help. Unless I was to build a rod the exact same way that somebody else in their database did it would tell me nothing. Better to have info on the blank and then go from there. I kinda think the flaws in the BFHP thing were pretty well addressed in the URRS. Should be good for everybody now.

I'm having trouble getting some of my multi piece rods apart after a few hours fishing time. They're not stuck! Just sticking a little. Maybe my mits are too big or sweaty but I was thinking there might be a way to mount something on the blank that would allow the user to get a better grip on the blank sections so they can be rolled or twisted apart. What about flocking a couple of little area

It's hard for me to believe that the EXPO could be any better than last year. The friendship and comraderie the builders have for one another and the willingness to answer any and all questions make it hard to beat. The dealers and manufacturers had so much product there that I could not see it all in just two days. Talk about being a kid in a candy store! I attended as many seminars as I could f

Build the handle on the butt section dots. Tape up the guides on the tip section on the spine and then on the dot. Try it both ways, I think you'll like the dot! Sage has a great reputation worldwide. They're not custom builders but they do produce a fine product. Trust them to know what they're doing in regard to rod set up. Trust those dots!

I don't what you paid them but whatever it was it probably still wasn't enough. I attended seminars by Mark Crouse, Dr. Hanneman, Joe Emig, Mike Barkley and Rich Forhan and was blown away! And they all spent time with us after the seminars to explain things we might have missed inside the seminar room. Really SUPER guys. Hey, if they pass a hat I'll drop a few dollars in! This is a large scal

Hats off to Steve Gardener on his Vibronic rod article in the latest issue of Rodmaker. Well done Steverino! In the article there was mention of some very small #2 and #3 guides that Bill Batson may be importing soon. Bill, any word when these might be available? Mighty interesting!

I think it's all been said before and by people who are pretty damn well respected in this hobby. See Honestly, Billy's comments run closest to home for me--- it's just plain FUN!

I've always liked RBO the best for localized rod buliding information. With this many builders, no matter what local information or rod building trend you're looking for somebody here will be up to speed on it. You just can't have this many builders from around the world all using the same resource without them bringing a ton of experience in here on their own local fishing and rod building style

Joe I read something today that I hope isn't true. If it is, I fear RBI could be doomed. And just when it looked like you guys had a hit and were rounding the bases. C'mon Joe, say it ain't so!!!!!!!!!

I'm trying to find an unusual boat rod handle that I saw once but can't remember the name of it. I'll try to explain it in the hopes that somebody here might know what it is and where to find it. It's used on boat rods and chucks into the unibutt then has an angled piece with a short high angle handle and then another angled piece that the rod butt is glued into. There is no foregrip. The piece h

First I want to say hat's off to Scott Throop for sharing his 3D TigerWrap in this month's issue of Rodmaker. Well done Scott! Both for your inventiveness and your willingness to share this with all of us. Second I want to say that as good as the coverage of the BIG ROD EXPO was it could never do justice to what it was like to be there in person. I can't wait until next year. Like the man said

If you're going after fish that large then you owe it to yourself to build one up and try it. I think once you do and make an honest comparison to what you're using now you won't go back. Your present rod is trying to twist! You just don't have anything to compare it to..................YET!

The first couple rods I did I thinned my epoxy with either acetone or denatured alcohol. I don't remember which. I had been told by another builder that that was the way it was done. Both of those rods developed all kinds of cracking and checking of the epoxy finish on the wraps in about three months time. Really looked bad. Maybe it was thinning that did it or maybe it was something else. All I

Well I was certainly impressed! Got to be careful sometimes when you mess with success. Sometimes once you get to a certain point your best bet is to leave well enough alone and just keep on doing what you're doing. If you can make it better somehow I'm all for it, but to tell you the truth, I still couldn't get around to see everything and see all the seminars in the two days I was there.

If the spine could be used to make a rod non-twisting, then you wouldn't have to use a spiral wrap! I've come to the same conclusion as most of these gents and just don't bother with it anymore. Spine is the most overrated and inconsequential aspect of custom rod building. It "don't" matter!!!!!!!

NO I wouldn't want you to add MORE seminars! There are almost too many as is! But if you offered a few less so you didn't have to run them two at a time I wouldn't have to make any decisions on which ones to attend! Seriously, the seminars were great. Very professionaly done and packed with information. No complaints on my end on the seminar themselves. They were everything they were billed as

No, we don't use too many tube rigs in the great American Southwest. Never been to the Boston area. Too cold for me.

My only complaint and I'm sure this isn't really one of those valid ones is that I had a hard time choosing between the seminars. I wish there was some way that they weren't scheduled opposite each other. Just made it too hard to decide which one to attend!

111. The SHOW
Having never been to any sort of rod building show I can only say that what I saw in NC last week just blew my socks off. I've been to other general fishing and sportsmans shows and I didn't expect that custom rod building would have anything like that. It just rocked my world to be able to learn so much and see so much in just a couple days. Surely this show sets the bar at a level that no one e

Hey, ask him if when he goes to a restaurant if he goes in the back and tells the chef how to cook? Same thing here. He's coming to you for your expertise but you can't give it to him unless he lets you.

I know Tom said that not many of the show attendees are from the regular user list of this site, but out of curiousity how many of you are planning to attend the BIG show next month? I won't be working this year and plan to fly out and spend a little money.
