Just trying to emule Tanaka's workart as a way to improve my skill.
Still a lot to improve, although I'm quite satisfied with the result.
Thanks to all you, folks, for your help!!!

This is my first attpemt on a closed wrap. Inspired oupon a Hiro Tanaka red and white tartan I loved. All in size A.
I just need to apply the finish to see the final result. I like it as it is now but I also want to see what will happen...

This is a Shimano Beastmaster 3050R stand-up rod (model sold in Spain).
Does anyone know how is this "silky" efect done both in the blank and the wraps?

I'll try with a new brush and a new cup and I'll revert.
I work in my office that is almost 100% for rod building. So I don't use sprays or any other agent that I think that can be "dangerous". No windows, so no problems from outside.
Can high huumidity producy this?

Dear friends,
I ALWAYS have problems with finish. Fisheyes (sometimes whaleeyes) always appear in my finish. I've tried different finish brands and, of course, this is not because of the finish itself.
I'm using disposable brushes, disposable plastic cups and syringes all them from FlexCoat. Brushes and cups are still from the first "batch".
I'm afraid these problems are becaus

When trying to install the printer to my new computers, a message appears telling that printer driver is not compatible with Windows XP Home Edition.
Can anyone tell me where to find them?. I've found it for MD-1300 but I don't know if it would run...

That's it, Jim!
I'm already able of doing both wide and bands. The problem was how to do it with a long thread. So the secret was the thread bobbin...
Thanks again, folks!

I've read all 3 books and I've also watched Ken's video. But my mainn doubdt is ow to handle the trim thread. This is not a problem for narrow bands (up to 10 or 15 turns) but, in this example we're talkin about 40+ turns. Remember I'm talking about the series between the roller feet and about how to "link" them.
Are them all made with just a single thread?. Inthis case, it has to b

I've "Custom Rod Thread Art" and "Advanced Rod Building" by Dale P. Clemens and the one by Tom Kirkman, but I didn't find how to "run" several trims. Is there any book you would advice about this?

Dear friends,
First of all, excuse me because it's quite difficult to me to explain this just with words, but I'm afraid this is the only way.
In order to get more skill, I sometimes try to emule some of your wraps. Sometimes I success and sometimes results are very far from the original . Worse, of course.
In this case, I'm beginning with what I call "multiple trim". I don't k

I used Permagloss in a light spinning rod and I noteiced it doesn't change threas color in the same way epoxies do. So, my doubt is if I'll get the same "plain black" color in the black threads or if the threads will be "seen" through the finish. Unfortunatelly, I made the underwrap with D thread.
On te other hand, I think that there will be no problems (fisheyes and so) wh

Dear Friends:
I'm building a 130 lb trolling rods and I've some questions as I've never built such powerful kind of rods before.
I've already wrapped de underwrap and I was going to begin wrapping the roller feet. The idea was making a double wrap for this. The question is that I had thought on making all wraps before aplying epoxy. But I don't know if this will be maybe to thick (I mean th

I'm building my first trolling rod with flocked grip. I think cork grip must be installed before butt wrapping. Otherwise, it will be loose after pasing through the butt wrap.
If the grip is then installed already flocked, may I wind the masking tape over it to hold butt wrap threads or is it better first wrapping and finishing the butt wrap and then flocking the grip?.

Some days ago I received an e-mail asking for information regarding a post I published some months ago. It was about building a 13 or 14 ft surfcasting rod to cast 3 to 4 oz.
I unfortunately dragged this message to the wrong folder and I lost it, so I cannot reply.
Here it's what I fonded out about this rod. Unfortunatelly, I could not build it because my custoner didn't get in touch again

I had already thought about using cyanoacrylate glue, but I didn't kow if it could damage the other threads or giving problems with epoxy finish. Is there any problem on using it for these purposes?.

Dear friends,
Some month s ago I received one spool of Prizm Hologram Thread. It's a thin metallic polyester tape (you cas see it here ). The question is that I don't know how to use it. I vanted it to make narrow trims but I'm not sure it'll be suitable. Is there any way to use it without it to be "twisted"?.
Any other interesting use?.
Thank agai,
Daniel

29. Re: Epoxy
I read a post some months ago that opened my eyes on this. The trick was just drilling a jole in the bottle's cap of the same daimeter (a little less) than the siringes point. It's very useful to pick up the epoxy and to leave the siringes once you've finished. Don't leave them fully closed or it's sometimes difficult to open them again later.
I' musing this systems for months and I have no &q

Tom: Probably I put too much epoxy over the blank... I'll try with smaller quantities.
