Guys, thanx for the replies. I'll probably go with a paint pen, but what do you think about a thin coat of expoxy over the top as protection? I bought some Devcon 2 Ton 30 minute epoxy to re oat some crank baits. This sets up pretty quickly.

I ship my rods from TN to CA each year for a long range fishing trip. All of my guides are Fuji, some black and others a dark gray. In spite of my careful packing, several of the guides have places where the paint has chipped off. Short of replacing the guides, what paint would you folk suggest to touch these up. All of my rods are custom wrapped and I do my best to keep them looking good.

Guys, a novice needs your advice. I was about finished wrapping my first rod and was about to put the finish on, when I decided I wasn't happy with my first wrap, so I cut everything off and decided to start over. Someone told me a razor is my friend.
My rod of choice is a 4'10" knife jig stick. It's short and parabolic. Initially I thought 6 guides plus the tip would be enough but aft

Guys, I'm a novice builder with one casting rod to my credit. My next build will be a Batson Knife jig stick for use with a spinner. This blank is only 4'10". Long. The Batson recipe calls for a size 40 first guide. My concern is the angle of the line from my Saltist 6500 to the guides. Guys I need advice.

That's my only complaint with Mudhole. Their shipping and handling costs are nuts.

I'm new to this "sport" of rod building. I have several other custom rods I purchased from a master and he used Gudebrod thread. Is/was it any better than what's available today.

I got this dryer set up from Santa. I'm a newbie but it seems like a good deal for the price.

11. Decals
Can decals be applied over a base wrap? If so, do you apply finish to the wraps first? Any tips will be appreciated.

Joel, I'm just east of you in Memphis. I just started myself. We both know there aren't a lot of custom builders around here. For your wrapper, unless you want to go electric, I would urge you to look at the Pac Bay new manual. Cost about $100 plus shipping. I would get a cheaper blank to start out. I bought my initial stuff from a couple of the sponsors here, Get Bit and Donnart. Both ver

Adam, I have a wooden wrapper I purchased from @#$%&. It didn't fit my needs so I upgraded. Where are you located. This would be fine for freshwater rods but I am wrapping saltwater rods with a bunch of base wraps. Tell me where you are, and it's yours. I guess there is some for of PM on this site.

I have a Batson knife jig stick that's only 4'10". I started out with the stripper guide around 20" from the reel, but under pressure, the line was hitting the blank. I forget where it ended up, but I'm guessing around 15-16".

I just got the new Pac Bay RW-HW rod wrapper. It's billed as the finest manual wrapper around. I'm so new at the "sport", I'll leave that evaluation to others but it's light years better than the wooden one I have. For the $, I'm really impressed. Now I just need to put it to good use.

Just got my new Mud Hole catalog and noted they have a laser alignment center. Has anyone seen this first hand?

In another post, I had asked your suggestions for a simple design for my first wrap. Someone indicated the dramatic color change that regular nylon thread can have when CP isn't used.
My blank is the titanium color Batson uses. I picked garnet for my base wraps and it looks great on the rod. My question is what do you think of the NCP garnet as the base wrap with regular garnet sans CP for

Guys, thanx for your input and suggestions. I really like the garnet against the titanium blank. What do you think of either Garnet NCP over garnet nylon or vice versa? I just got have enough experience to predict how the color will change on the nylon.

Guys, thanks for the input. I'm going to keep the wrap very simple. I don't think I'm up to a tiger wrap as yet. As to the questions about my rod wrapper, I get it that I need to keep it off the felt. I learned the hard way. My new wrapper is somewhere in transit. Here is a pic of it:

20. Wrap suggestion
In my first post here, I commented at how my base wraps were coming unwound thru contact with the felt on my cheapo wrapper. While a better wrapper is in transit, I thought about starting over with what I've done so far. Again, this is my first wrap and, of course, want it to turn out ok. Thus, I'm looking for a simple design for a total newbie.
My blank is a titanium color Batson blank. I

My rod wrapper is a simple 2 "holer". The rod I chose to wrap was chosen because I thought it would be easier. It's a 4'10" Batson knife jig blank. But, when I static tested for location of the guides, I found it needed way more than I thought. Thus the guides are closer together that I expected and given the limitations of my wrapper, it's very difficult to keep the thread off

Folks, this is my first post and I'm in the middle of my first build, and like most everyone I guess, I'm experiencing some learning moments. I started out wrapping my rod using a $30 rod wrapper. I've since ordered a Pac Bay new manual wrapper that they just released. It's upgradable to a powered unit. In fact it looks almost identical to their powered unit sans the motor.
My problem will
