I'm new to this "sport" of rod building. I have several other custom rods I purchased from a master and he used Gudebrod thread. Is/was it any better than what's available today. Re: Gudebrod Thread

Jon,
Gudebrod was a thread manufacturer who made nylon thread of high quality for many years. The variety of colors was large and they also made a thread which had two different colors twisted together. Unfortunately they have gone out of business. Today we have Pro Wrap, Fishhawk, and Pac Bay Who make nylon thread in a rather large variety of colors. They also sell metallic threads and some metallic/nylon twist threads. If you also are willing to use polyester thread Madeira and Sulky make threads we can use for wrapping rods. There is also a company called Thread Art that makes embroidery thread including some two color twist threads. One thing you need to keep in mind is the polyester threads are made for use on sewing machines and have a small amount of silicone lubricant to keep the thread from breaking in the sewing machines. The silicone lubricants can cause a problem with epoxy or other finishes which leaves splotches on your wrap. This can be avoided if you coat your wrap with color preserver prior to applying finish. There may be some folks who have a supply of old Gudebrod threads that they may be willing to part with. I hope this has helped. Mike Blomme Re: Gudebrod Thread

Hello All.
Heck Mike there is a lot of stuff out there, some builders that use thread from fabric shops and God only knows where else (because I know that I sure Don't) builders are buying thread from. I will stick to the rod building stuff to keep it in the rod building family. Hay Don are you going to jump the pond for the ICRBE? Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: Gudebrod Thread

Hi Bob,
One of the Hawaii tackle shops asked, more than once if I would be attending any trade shows, and OBTW, what about that one out on the east coast? What could I say? It will be an opportunity to meet Karen in PERSON. Is the temperature going to be above 60 degrees? Is 60 degrees the freezing point? Hope to see you there. Chills, Don Don Becker Re: Gudebrod Thread

Thanks Bill,
I spent at least a year in Oklahoma City, I quickly learned the benefits of Levi pants and cowboy boots. Although the boots are now gone, I do have Levi pants. A record low was set on Oahu a few years back. I believe (not sure) the temperature dropped to 56 at some of the higher elevations. Of course there is snow on the mountain tops of the islands of Maui and Hawaii. Don Don Becker Re: Gudebrod Thread
