I want to thank everyone for there help with this issue. After a few google searches and ALOT of reading I have found my problem. I have been using syringes with a black plunger. well it appears after the first use the epoxy ate away a little of the plunger (silicone) and this has been contaminating my epoxy! I poured some epoxy directly into a cup and BAM no more fish eyes!!!!

I'm puling my hair out here. I scuffed up all the epoxy and there where ALOT of fish eye's in that second coat. I used a stiff brush and brushed off the dust from scuffing. I mixed up a new batch of epoxy and applied a small section it went on fine but after a few minutes you could see it start fish eye again. So I wiped it off then went to a diffrent test spot and soaked it with DNA waited for i

I let it setup and there a little crators all over the epoxy! What would my next step be? Just apply a thin third coat to fill in the spots? Should I clean the surface with DNA or just epoxy right over the surface as is?

Building up a seeker 775-8 shark rod. I have a 9/0 penn to put on it which has the rod brace. I dont want this brace to dig into my EVA and tear it up. I have read a few post's about a sleeve to put on the blank but I'm not sure where to find them. Also does this sleeve slide over the eva or is it mounted to the bear blank above the reel seat?

Just curious if anyone has used the glow in the dark thread on a rod build. I was thinking of doing a shark rod next and was thinking of putting in a few accent wraps of glow in the dark thread. My question is what is the average life of the glow in the dark thread? As my rod will be mostly punished with sunny saltwater conditions during the day and long sandy saltwater beach's at night. I just

I bought a lot of rod building materials and this was part of it. It is a 5'6" rod i belive to be a calstar graphiter It has the eva grips reel seat and gimbal already on the blank so I'm unsure of the specs of the rod. It does have a spiral wrap up the rod that fades from grey to a gloss black. I'm unsure what reel seat is on it or anything about this rod. I would like to sell it to buy a b

14. Re: epoxy
There is some high spots. When I rub my finger over it can feel it. There is also some low spots! Should I just smooth it out with some 600 grit then put a coat of epoxy over it?

15. Re: epoxy
thanks for the responses I'm unsure if I should sand it. If you look close you can see brush marks in the epoxy that did'nt lay down flat. The epoxy was tacky when I removed the hair and tried to fix it but I screwed it up instead.

16. Re: epoxy
it is neither. I wrote on the blank with a quill pen and paint then epoxyed over it and that is where my problem area is at it!!!!

17. epoxy
I messed part of my epoxy up. As it was drying I noticed a piece of hair in the epoxy I pulled it out with tweezers but now I have a swirl in the epoxy. I tried to heat it a little but I think the epoxy it to far along as it did nothing. So after it dries should I sand it down a little then re epoxy?

I just put the first coat of u 40 dura gloss LS on my rod. However I want to put a fish decal on it. If I let the epoxy dry enough to put the decal on it will no longer be tacky and if it is no longer tacky I cannot put the second coat of epoxy on. What do I do.

I was given a nice st croix blank. The previous owner put the grips and reel seat on and never finished it. Well he put to small of a reel seat on. It is a smaller pac bay reel seat and when I put a med size spinning reel 10 -12 lb test size it just dont seem to fit tight it kinda wobles side to side in the reel seat. This is a beautiful green pearl blank and I dont want to see it wasted so I wan
