I'm looking for a source for what's called "rayon twist" thread. It's a two-tone colored thread. I don't even know the brand name. I've tried some searches, but haven't had any luck.

Still working on my matrix. Can you believe that I can't get the information I want (the diameter of certain threads in inches) from the manufacturers? Repeated emails and nothing. Sigh! Derek

Thanks for the good laugh, Bill. I also get a lot of funny looks when I go to fabric shops, hobby shops such as Michaels and ask where the doll eyes and rug yarn are located. I tie flies and am always looking for something I can use in "Hobby #2." The craft section of Wally World is another place that I spend a lot of time searching for bargins. Example: I tie a lot of Clousers and

I'm thinking of trying the Madeira Thread and would like to know what are the major differences between this thread and thread from Gudebrod. So far my son and I have only used the Gudebrod NCP thread and metallic treads. Do you need to use color preserver on the Madeira Thread, where do you get it and a color chart?

I just tried some Gudebrod red bronze metallic thread as a trim band and couldn't beleive how hard it was to keep from unraveling. I finally just taped tag end to blank and coated with CP, and let dry and cut after. Very slippery stuff. Any body have any tricks for trim bands. ED

I have a question about the various threads out there. The embroidery places sell alot of thread such as maderia, & I'm wondering how these compare with "traditional"rod thread such as gudbrod etc.I know some of these are rayon and some are polyester vs gudbrod being nylon (are the metallics nylon too) How does say a #40 embroidery thread compare in size & strength to a size

Saw the post a few down about how regular and NCP black threads finish out differently in appearance. Assuming that color preserver is not used, as I understand it, the NCP black thread doesn't end up looking truly black once finished, and the regular black thread does. What about the regular black thread fading because it isn't treated with color preserver? Will it end up looking "less b

I am experimenting with some thread wrapping. The glass coat cp was setting up before I finished putting cp on the wrap. Is it fair to say that it needs to be thinned a little? thanks

Ok I inherited a ton of rod making, fly tying and reel repair tools, supplies and equipment at various stages of assembly and repair. I've been monitoring this site now for a month or so now, picking up tips and a few books to get into the hobby. This has been a great resource so far. Thanks. Now, my wife gets a sewing machine with all the bells and whistles. I have hundreds of spools of thre

While recouperating from my arm surgery I had my friend Dave wrap up a Lami blank for me and gave him some silver Sulky metallic to try on the trim bands. Well once the epoxy was applied it became completely transparent?? Wondering if anyone else ran into this problem? Or possibly it wasnt metallic after all? Hmmmmmmm?

I was in a craft store today. They had a nice looking thread under the name Sulky. They said it was rayon. It seemed like it was as "hard" regular thread and wasn't fuzzy. It seems like a good thread for wrapping guides or decorative wraps. Anyone ever tried it?

Would some of you builders that use Maderia thread share with me the type of thread, and the size thread you are using. They carry rayon, polyester, etc. I would like to use some for butt wraps as they have so many colors, but don't know which to buy. Some are embroidery thread, some are metallic. I am comfused. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Art mrpar&#

In talking to a few guys a while back, there was interest in expanding a test on thread fading. I have new setup that is almost ready for the sun. I'm using black thread on recommendation from Mark Crouse, using HT metallic, Gudebrod nylon, NCP and silk, Madeira poly and rayon, and Sulky (not quite black as my local store was out, but it will work for the point). The finishes will be Permaglos

I live in a black hole. 2 blocks from home is a JoAnnes and a few other sewing supply stores. None have even heard of Polyneon. Been on the phone all morning, and have had no luck throughout town. Tried Madeira.com but I can't order a card because I'm not a wholesaler. Tried a few other online stores, but they require a minimum dollar order and I can't see buying 25 bucks worth of thread on a

I really like the Sulky metallics, but has anyone used the Sulky Rayon #40?? It comes in a wide array of beautiful colors and is maybe just a tad thinner than size A Like to hear if anyone has tried it and what is your opinion?? Mike

Don,t wax your car in the same building you have a rod drying, i didn,t have fish eyes i had craters.. I fixed it but what a mess. The wax must get airborne and travel throughout the room. That buffer must have slung that stuff all across the room. Bone head stunt,,, Later John

Just read the article in rodmaker, it mentions comfortable in cold weather situations. Well the first thing that popped into my brain was ice rods, and i thought these would be the perfect rods to practice on. I am going to buy a kit and do a few. Any thoughts from you hardwater guys or gals out there? John

Does anyone make a Nylon Wrapping Thread that is a little finer than what is in common use? Like a little thicker than Tire Silk but not as thick as an A. Thanks

Hi Guys and gals, My next fly rod is going to have 3/0 silk for the main wraps. I love one of the colors that Angler's Workshop has in their silk (an olive color). The problem comes with trim wraps. I would like to use a lighter yellow color for the trim wraps. However, I don't want to use color preserver on the wraps. I want the dark olive to go translucent. Is there a such thing as silk

I read where some stores carry the polyneon in smaller spools... What chains of stores? One advantage of my location is the wildlife( photo page)...one BIG disadvantage is that it's 70+ miles to an "A,C Moore" or large "JoAnn's Fabric",etc. so ,it's really a witchhunt to go shopping ! :>{

A while back I got some Madiera metalic threads from Al Goldberg to try out. A word of caution from him was that the thread had a coating on them to lubricate them while on sewing machines. Al suggested that I double coat them with CP to protect the finish on the final wrap. Now I have spools of Mdeira Ployneon threads in 5 shades of purple(THANKS BillyV!) do I have to worry about the same lubr

I have just started building and was wondering about the correct type of thread to use. I understand that nylon rod building thread is the best, but what about rayon. The only nylon I can find locally is too large to look good, but small dia. rayon sewing thread is readily available.
