I agree with Tom, nothing will be hurt by leaving the belt on for tension. I have done it for years and no issues.

Phil, It really will depend on the angler. I have built several fly rods over the years and most are old school double foot wire loop. The reason many have liked the double foot guides is castability and virtually no fouling. Wire single foot loops are a bit lighter but again I fall back to the preference of the angler, if they are seasoned fly fisherman I let them tell me. Frankly I prefe

Joe, looks great if that is your first attemp at it. more packing and burnishing til you feel comfotable then you may want to try going to 'C" and or even an "A" size thread. It packs tighter and will be less bulky. Tight lines, John Hernandez

Phil, I have used plain wood stain over the years, after all cork is wood. The best penetration I got was when I built the handles from cork sections. Yo need to thin the stain out as much as possible or all you will do is dye the top layer of the cork. The thiner the stain the better the penetraion has been my experience. You will need to experiment and know that cork paste/filler is a ch

Walt, I just use a very tight butt cap. Even with the tapered end I have no issues with it slipping off. If anything I have to work the butt cap off the end of the rod but as stated I have never had one slip off while in the chuck. tight lines, John Hernandez

Clinton, I have been using the Elmers paste for several years and find it works very well. What will make all the difference in the world is your prep. I clean out all the craters and holes with a fine brush and then use a air hose to blow out any loose particulate that may be in any of the pits or holes. I have rods that have been in use for several years and they are holding up just fine.

Gents, the paint he used was Testors Candy Green, Candy Grape, Candy Red and several other colors. They are transparent paints that look great and seem to be holding up just fine. The do however take a few days to fully cure, so just be aware of that. Tight lines, John Hernandez

Kevin, The only big issue I see with using the food coloring is that it will fade very quickly. I have a friend that just painted a gray graphite blank with a green translucent paint that looks great. I will find out what he used and post here. Tight lines, John Hernandez

Don, There are many quality blanks out there it may come dow to the style and technique of fishing he does. Batson Rainshadow RX8+Bass and RX8 Bass blanks are some great blanks and the Batson team are top notch in my book. They are very knowledgeable and will answer any questions you may have. John, You can try some diluted CLR. It works great in taking rust and corrosion off of old guides and should work on the reel seat but make sure you do a thurough rinse or it will continue to remove material. CLR is a calcium, lime and rust remover that you can find in any grocerey store in the detergent and cleaning product area. Tight lines, John Hernandez

Wayne, I feel your pain. What I have done falls in line with Roger. I have rubber coated some needlenose pliers and use them to straighten guides. As stated above just hold the the area near the foot of the guide with the pliers and tweek with second set of pliers. I have never had a guide fail after straightening. Tight lines, John

Robbie, Adam's solution is a good one. You definitely do not want to heat the reel seat and fry your bamboo rod. As Adam stated use extreme care if you do decide to use a cutting wheel of some sort. If you can clear material from either fore or rear area of the reel seat and see what kind of room you have to play with. Tight lines, John

Nick, i agree with Bill, need more information in order to help you. For instance if the rods are for cranking they are typically softer and if they are casting rods you will definitely need more guides. Help us help you, more info please. Tight lines, john

Tim, I use braid on several of my rods and have found that if the line is spooled on properly from the get go it will help minimize the line from digging into the wound line. I use braid for blue water and fresh and have minimal issues with it. Tight lines, John Hernandez So CaL

Wade, As many others have stated above, the easiest way to control the dust in your home is to block off the vent in that room when possible and make sure it is cleaned regularly. That alone will reduce your dust problem tremendously. The filter on the fan does work very well also just remember to turn it off when you get ready to apply the finish. Tight lines, John

Chip, Put it on water slide decal paper. You can buy it at any decent hobby shop or go to decalpaper.com. They not only have inkjet and laserjet paper but a step by step process that works perfect. All you need to do is figure out if you need a clear paper or white paper. Tight lines, John Hernandez
