Matt, Is the blank colored or just gloss over graphite or? The reason I ask is if it is gloss over natural graphite, smooth out the scuffs and go over with a very very light coat of epoxy finish. If it is a colored blank and you did not scuff to the original blank color smooth out and again apply a very very thin coat of epoxy finish. If it is a colored blak and you scuffed down to the orig

Larry, I have been building fro almost 40 years and still rn into spacing issues on occassion. You may have done everything right but the fact is smaller areas cannot accommodate the same amount of thread passes as a larger area. You just may have to back off a few passes thread or even use a smaller diameter of thread for those final few passes. My email address is finc&

Jerry, I would go with the GF700M gives you a little more beefwhen you hook into the occasional blue fin or big eye. Still light enough for albies but have some insurance in case you run into something bigger. I love the 700L and have seeral of them but usually run 20 and have been spooled by larger fish in the 60 to 80lb range. Just my two cents. Tight lines, John

Ken, First of all Iwould send it back with an explination so the sponsor can look into their supplier. Yes it will affect the leader and or line over time, sooner than later judging by the amount of pitting on the guide. Tight lines, John

Dan, It will fish just fine. The angle difference wll not matter at all. All the pressure is being put on the ceramic ring and the slight difference in angle will not cause any issues at all. Tight lines, John

Yes it does. You want to use Testors clear enamel to seal the edges because they have a tenency to lift very easily. What I do is apply the decal wrap over it and leave it over night. The next day I remove the wrap and apply the clear enamel let it dry for about an hour and you are good to go. Tight lines, John

Adam, We have all run into the same issues at the beginning. The only suggestion I can give is lay out your pattern and double and tripple check your spacing measurements. It seems that the smaller in diameter the blank the more precise you have to be. Trust me it only get better with time. tight lines, john

Ditto on the thread cutting. Put the grip on a blank nice and snug, mark your cut line and go to town. Clean sharp cuts all day long.

Phil, There was a time where in most cases the dealer would replace the defective blank, but for many dealers it just became a big headache. Trying to keep stock up and having to return warranty replacements just got out of control. So the usual practice now is to point you in the direction of the manufacturer. You will find that dealing with the manufacturer will in the long run work out b

Gents, One thing to remember is that most Graphite, Boron and carbon fiber rods get defects in manufacturing rather than how they are staored. Graphite tends not to warp when leaned against a wall or stored in horizontal racks where it can bow due to little or no memory in the carbon fabric. if there is a noticeable bend at the tip of the blank it more than likely is due to a less than strai

Gabe, I've been building for over 35 years and never had an issue with the CP on the blank clouding up after applying the expoxy. Make sure it is dry and go for it. Tight lines, John Hernandez

Hi Dave, Much of the time you can buy the grip sections with the tenons on them. In the case of making them yourself. I use sanding screen to take the bulk of the material down on both EVA and cork. What I do is take exact measurements of the cap ID and the size of the OD the tenon is going to be. I mask off the area I do not want affected by my sanding with painters tape. I then use a ra

I'm with Ken on this one. Treat it like a regular butt wrap. Use a size windcheck that is slightly larger than needed to accommodate the thread after locking the ends of the cheveron. Remember these are all opinions and you should choose what best fits you. Tight lines, John Hernandez

John, Call Bill or one of the great people at Batson and ask. They have access to things that are not always in print. Bill and his staff have come thru with special request several times over the years. If they don't have it or can't find it, it does not exsist. Tight lines, John Hernandez

Bill the other thing you may want to try is sanding down the eva to fit your hand. I use 80 and 50 grit sanding screen. I find it at Harbor Freight stores. I use it to reshape hypalon and EVA all the time. I also use it to sand down both before mentioned grip stock. It takes a little time but It works great IMO. Tight lines, John

Hank, Flame colors are really a builders choice, its how you fade from one color to the next. I use black to candy apple red to burnt orange to orange to yellow then sometimes to white. the best look IMO ie blending each color. If you have questions send me an email with your number and I will be happy to give you a call and go over. Tight lines, John Hernandez

Hey Joe, One thing you may also want to try is blending more of the colors together. If you start out with white and go into yellow, what you may want to do is put some yellow into the white. Say your white section is a 10 thread thickness, at thread 6 insert yellow at every other white the wrap 5 solid yellow and insert light orange at thread 6 of the yellow and repeat til you get to the da

You just answred your own question. Inlays that I have done over the years were taped with blue painters tape til dry, then I finished with a good wipe of acetone and a light sanding to remove glue or bulges. Tight lines, John Hernandez
