At least one of the sponsors on the left and there may be more carry the Renzetti-Morton graph. If you don't mind the price point it will save you countless amount of time on guide placement, for the rods I build it has been spot on and only takes a few minutes to set your rod blank up. After using it for many years and checking it by static loading, it is my conclusion it will save you a huge

I have had excellent results using the fuji K guides and putting an unbraced spinning tip top one or even two ring sizes smaller than the last running guide.

Don, I didn't state that he said that, I asked if he would go on record to state that, I knew when i asked he could not do that. Accuracy is a learned physical trait, almost anyone can learn to cast accurately with a lot of practice, in my opinion and remember this is my opinion No amount of different guide trains out there can make that claim as to improved accuracy. To prove that point to you

Darrin, I do use other American Tackle guides and accomplish what you yourself say when comparing the guide systems. They, the microwaves are no worse than other guide trains out there it also means they are no better, there is no significant casting gain there fore that tells me that getting the line under control more quickly means nothing. Would you state that the MicroWaves are so much much

It is beyond me as to why someone would want a conventional casting rod. I have never had a customer who didn't like a spiral wrap once they tried them, it is the configuration of choice here, they have commented that they looked "different" or "weird" but they understood the mechanics and science behind the concept and gave them a try, I do a lot of rewraps for those guys on

I would disagree that the line has to be touching the blank unless you are not spiral wrapping the rod. I also disagree that pumping the rod is typical, slack line when pumping will result in a fish throwing the hook or lure more often than not. Steady pressure and your drag along with proper number of appropriate guides, which you have stressed repeatedly in other posts will boat more fish. I

I have at least six spinning rods with micro guides on them two of them northfork composite blanks with 3's as running guides, very nice setups for crappie. Not sure where the idea came from that micros are generally on casting rods. I would agree whole heartedly with your last statement, however even with a casting rod set up as you asked I stand by that the blank and reel would be unduly stre

Calvin on a spinning rod I would start with a 16 10 8 6's out to tip or possibly even 16 10 6's out to tip depending on which blank it was on. On a casting rod I would spiral it starting 12 doublefoot 10 double foot 8 doublefoot 6 fly guides out to tip, keep in mind this is very generic and would depend a lot on what the rod is used for. I would use Fujis or Minimas.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I think they look cheesy, don't own any and don't want to. I have shown them to lots of people in our area and they all have arrived at the same conclusion on their own. There is no data to support claims of longer distance or anything else for that matter when tested against most other properly set up guide trains. If they ever come to Kansas

In my opinion once you start going with longer intervals you will start seeing sharper angles between guides. I believe the sharper the angle the more stress you put on the blank thus creating the chance for a broken rod. I also think those sharper angles put more stress on the drag of your reel and the winding of the line on the reel. I don't like my line touching the blank anymore than I hav

Thanks Russ. I fish quite a bit and do a lot of tourny's for crappie so for those applications I have nice spinning rods. I am just looking to do some relaxing time and have fun with the fish. I see maybe two or three fly fishermen a year at our lakes, going out of my comfort zone for the challenge.

Thanks guys. I will be fishing 4 to 6 feet and won't be casting more than 40 ft or so. I was thinking a shorter rod but I'm glad I asked as I said I am out of my zone on this.

I am wanting to build a fly rod for catching 10 to 12 inch crappie. I will be using minnow imitation flies. I have never fly fished in my life. I would like your recommendations for a blank and guides and reel, line, leaders and tippits. This will be for unobstructed reservoir fishing while wading. What length of blank plus action and any other help would be greatly appreciated. Keep in min

watch your local pawn shops, yard sales and craigslist. You can learn from rebuilding these types of rods also.

Glenn, I saw it somewhere on their site. HM is high modulus, IM is intermediate modulus, and SM escapes me now. I can't remember the modulus ratings by number if they gave them. I am not sure if the numbers really mean anything from company to company though.

I think Tom and Phil both hit it right on. I have not found any blanks yet that are the same in CCS numbers when comparing them in the same line by two of the companies I build on though, I am sure there are probably some out there. I am in the process of switching over all my tourney rods to two piece to save space in the boat and I am running into two piece rods of the brands I want are quite

Robert, do a search right here and you will get lots of info. I had the good fortune to attend the very last Duck River gathering put on by Bob who is now at Mudhole. There were lots of builders and presenters there. I remember meeting Bill Stevens there and I thought that he told me Castaway had the mandrels and most of the stock. I then heard from somewhere that the mandrels were in Oklaho

I will weigh the finished P702 and the unfinished PP7000. I have some others a couple of SJ and SB blanks 6 foot and 6 foot 6 inches I will weigh also. In the modified CCS system I use the PP7000 comes in at 100 pennies and 80 degrees, The P702 is 120 pennies and 78 degrees. The other blanks are all 160 to 190 pennies and 74 to 76 degrees AA. I am thinking the P702 built up came in at under

I would ask the same thing Bill asked, why would one want to cut or lengthen a blank? With the CCS system and the multitude of quality blank manufacturers what is the purpose, I have yet to see a blank that can't be found for the application without altering the blank? From what I saw on the blank manufacturing processes, blanks are designed to be a certain thickness in different areas of the b

The person who wrote the article is a product tester for a magazine, so maybe he is biased due to who pays for the advertising I don't know. E-how could very well be wrong and I don't believe everything on the net, including this site, to say that everyone else is wrong and I am right is a pretty bold statement from anyone. Everybody tries to validate their point based on personal experience.

Here is a good read for the OP. Braid is an awesome invention for us anglers, because its reduced diameter per pound-test makes it possible to increase spool capacities by 40 to 50 percent, while its no-stretch characteristics make it possible to fish deep yet maintain incredible sensitivity and hook-setting power. But there are dozens of brands out there… so how are we supposed to know which

Dyneema is a high-tech woven synthetic fiber made by DSM, and is used in many brands of braided fishing line, including Raptor, Spiderwire, Sufix and Power Pro. Dyneema is soft and supple, has no memory, floats on water, and has virtually no stretch. It is also slippery, which can make tying knots a challenge. Certain knots hold better than others. There are hundreds of fishing knots for every ty

Not sure on the PP slick but PP is made with dyneema. There are only 2 super braid fibers 1 is spectra the other is dyneema both have good and bad points and one line is not a catch all for every type of fishing, mono still has a place also. To limit yourself to one type of line is like limiting yourself to one type of rod. There are no bad premium lines on the market it is personal preference
