The RX7 1203 is a very nice blank, I have some of them and they will handle Crappie in trees and thinner brushpiles, the 1204 is perfect for heavy brush and slop. Get you one of each and you are prepared for any thing. When fishing tournaments for Crappie the 1204 is my go to weapon.

Get yourself a St Croix 3S59MXF No cutting and arguably one of the best blanks out there for value.

Dupli color for dash boards has a flexing agent in it, you can get it at most auto parts stores. Some of it even has a clear coat built in.

All my long crappie rods are Rainshadows I have one in all models from 8 to 10 and a half foot in 1 power all the way to 5 powers. I have found that the IST993 is the best application for something in the 8 ft range. I find the 1 and 2 powers to be fun to fish with but in deep water cover do not have enough power to turn good fish quickly away or out of medium to heavy cover, same along med to

Call Batson, they have an excellent brand and they will be more than happy to make suggestions. All rod building companies will make suggestions if you give them a call.

If they told you a rod was rated to 5 pounds at 45 or 90 degrees would you have to send the fish that broke the rod in with the rod so they could verify it before replacing?

I have a St Croix 2 Pc ultra lite and A MHX 2 Pc ultralight i have caught hundreds of large crappie and the Occasional bass to 3 and 4 pounds on. My guide train layout made the ferrule wrap look uneven or odd to me so i didn't wrap the ferrules and i have had zero failure. If the ferrule wrap takes away from the geometrical look of the rod i would leave it off.

If a customer comes to you and says i would like a custom rod just like this one i bought off the shelf and i want it to be as sensitive as this one from the store, do you tell him he overpaid for something that he cannot discern? If a customer asks you can you build me a sensitive rod do you tell him well i can't because you cannot discern that measurement? If a customer wants you to build him

Lots of ways to skin a fish and none of them are wrong if it works for you.

On some of our lakes the timber is really thick and there are times when a shorter rod is required, same with shooting docks. Normally I will use a six or six and a half footer when not fighting the thick trees.

I would add the Batson SP600cg to that list, might be the best bang for the buck but they are all very nice blanks.

A 12 volt blacklight would do the trick on almost any thread. Just set it behind your rods or in front of them. Would work from land or a boat.

Their site is gone and I couldn't get redirected, it kept taking me to a bankruptcy filing. Must be a glitch somewhere. I really like their light blanks almost akin to the old Shikari's.

Sorry to hear that. Surely you didn't get into this craft not knowing there would be an expense and some failure along the way. This craft can be a humbling experience but if you continue to learn from the failures it will get better as you grow in knowledge.

120. Re: Rod repair
I would remove the guide and rewrap. The solid glass rods are quite common around here. I have seen some rods that were repaired like in the Library and they were quite functional. I disagree with Tommy about trashing the rod if it is of value to you or a customer. There are many rods that have been repaired like the article in the Library all across the world still catching fish just fine.
