Placed the order and the shipping was removed on the final invoice. All is good!

3. NFC Shipping
Went to order some parts from NFC. Total was around $150. I applied a coupon I have. The total after the coupon was more than the limit for free shipping, so I assumed there would be no shipping charge. When I went to check out, a shipping charge was added. Does this sound right?

Just wondering if anyone has heard from him. He used to be a regular on posts, but I haven't seen anything from him in a while.

I also found the 15 mm insert too loose. I ended up turning a piece of acrylic to match the ID of the reel seat. I didn't measure the final od of the turned part, but it was a snug fit when finished. Also, arbors are different sizes on the butt end and on the reel seat thread end. The internal areas of these seats are not as uniform as the graphite seats I have used.

I've used the North Fork NFCG021C01 with these reel seats and it worked fine.

Look at the thread from 6/3/21 about Pete Holloway's "Easy Spiral System". It's a good start to understand the spiral wrap.

David,
Thanks for the response. I understand your concerns. You did offer some suggestions on how to estimate the final numbers when using the XO that got me thinking about how to do it with my CCS setup.

David,
Thank you for the info. I was hoping you would provide it since you spent so much effort in detailing the other aspects of the XO.
For the MB733, It started as an 87" long blank. After the build, it was 86.25". So, it looks like you essentially replaced the bottom 14"+/- of the blank with the XO grip. I would propose that this is why the numbers hardly changed. The

Thanks David. Please also include how much of the blank you inserted into the XO Skeleton.

Mike,
I understand your answer. I use a backlash device for my measurements and am pretty anal about the details, use a level, measurements down to the mm, and weights down to the gram. I'm just trying to get a feel for how the numbers will change.
If someone is building a rod with the XO Skeleton, can you post the before and after CCS numbers for comparison?

How does one measure the CCS numbers of a rod built with the XO Skeleton seat/grip?
In a build with a conventional seat/grip set, where the blank goes to the end of the grip, the CCS measured before and after the build are virtually the same.
Take for example a NFC MB724-1. According to my measurements, the CCS numbers are 71 degrees and 583 grams.
If I build this rod with the XO Ske

Try mixing some dry pigment into a finish epoxy and coat with that. I've had decent results, but I admit, I did not try enough to perfect the process. It should be similar to any other finish epoxy application. You may need two or more coats to get your desired results. And you can make it any color or design you want.

Tom,
I would love to see them there, but the last time I checked, they were not on the list of show vendors you posted. Have they not fully committed to the show yet?

I have the Rod Geeks rod. It measured AA=75 degrees, IP=178 gms, ERN 9, recommended line weight 225 grains. I use this for bonefish in the Bahamas and it is my go to rod. I broke the tip section and Rod Geeks helped me to get another tip section. They were very accommodating.
I have the LMX Beta Gamma, not sure if it is the same rod you mention. It's numbers are AA=63 degrees, IP=211 gram

You can use some old braided line. I took an old roll of kevlar line that I would never use and cut it in foot long lengths. When I want to clean up some epoxy, I hold the kevlar like floss and work my way around the blank where I want to clean up the epoxy. The kevlar absorbs the epoxy and you can get a nice clean edge.

Another method to consider is:
1. Set your stripper guide at 19"
2. Set your 5.5M guide 13.64" from your stripper. (7.84+5.8=13.64)
3. Set your choke guide to get the offset as noted in the bullseye picture of the website. I do this next to allow an easier sight line to the choke guide.
4. Set your 8H guide in between the stripper and the 5.5M guide to complete the bullseye.

Noticed this error in the spreadsheet. There are two Lamiglas blanks, IMP843 and IMP843R, that are listed at 100 inches in length. They should be listed at 84 inches in length.

Another data point. I measured my SB724 at 73 degrees and 398 grams. Butt is 0.5925. Tip is 4-1/2. 12.5 mm is 13-3/8" up from the butt end.

Would anyone happen to have the CCS numbers for this rod?

Chris, Yes, they are my measurements. I have another blank that I have not yet built. It's numbers are 61 degrees and 202 grams. Slightly lighter but not by much. Both of these entries are in the CCS database.

I built the F890-4 for the same reason. The CCS numbers I got for the rod are: AA=63 degrees, IP=211.4 gms, IP=3262 grains, and ERN=10.2. This converts to a line head weight of 268 grains. The CCS tutorials will lead you down the path to the ERN and line head weights. Most good lines will give you a head weight and these numbers should get you into the general area. Yes, I agree with Michael

I too have checked against the master list and have not found several of the blanks. In addition to the blanks Adam Schulz requested, I can not find specs on the following blanks:

054
53
47.78
58.84
020
Please provide the specs on these also.
Thanks.

I got my mystery box. Came through with no damage. Upon initial inspection, everything looks pretty nice. My one question is: Where can I get the blank descriptions and specifications based on the pattern numbers? I checked the NFC catalog and could not relate any of the pattern numbers to blanks in the current catalog. I also searched the website and could not find the information there. I

One source is James Upton's book on weaving. Did one for the first time using the guidance in the book and it came out just fine. He provides a good description of how to begin and end the weave.

El,
Kudos to you! This information is invaluable when it comes to selecting blanks. Hopefully we can continue to add to the database for every blank purchased. The more added, the more we can get an average value for the parameters of the blank. You did a great job putting the spreadsheet together. The sort functions allow you to slice and dice the data anyway needed. Including all the per

I use an end mill and a dowel that fits the reel seat in my lathe . Makes a real nice clean cut and very square to the axis. The end mill I use is from the Little Machine Shop. It has a 1/2" shank and a 1' diameter at the flutes.
