Not good. Skip all those in-between sizes - they do nothing for you and actually result in a less straight line path, a roller coaster type path. Try something more like 16 - 10 and then 6's on out. This creates a straighter line path and reduces weight on the mid and tip areas (and will pay dividends on a rod of this length). .........................

The way the line comes off a spinning reel requires that the guide system be different than that found on casting rods. Generally this means that you have to use higher, and possibly a little larger (sometimes the ring diameter is just to get the extra height) guides for the first few. The running guides should be as small as can be employed and still perform the required task. So nothing has r

It's very quick and easy to just give Decal Connection a call. They can make almost anything you want in a very professional appearing water slide decal and it isn't likely to cost you more than a very few bucks. ...........

I do nothing differently. I use the smallest guides that will perform the required task and set them up based on straightest line path and best stress distribution. That's all. ..............

No doubt, the rod is flexed in several positions when fighting certain fish. Generally, however, the reel remains on top of the rod with only a few degrees tilt to one side or the other. Most of the time, excepting some fighting techniques, the load on the rod will come from below it. ........

Not really, no. Most casting reels are designed to be cast so that the handle is pointing up. The human wrist doesn't flex in the casting direction with the palm to the side, it must be turned so that the palm is facing down. Even then, most fishermen use all sorts of casting motions to do what they need to do during a day's fishing. The only thing that really remains constant is the positi

No, they'll get longer. The less flex the further the spacings will actually plot the guide locations. The more flex, the closer together the marks will fall on the blank. .................

The cushioned seats allow for expansion and contraction of the seat and/or reel feet. They act as sort of a "rubber band." So once you tighten up on a reel, the seat hoods stay tight, for years at a time even. For the most part, the advent of cushioned reel seat hoods in the 1980's forever solved the problem of reels coming loose. .................

If you run a Common Cents Measurement on it, at any length, you'll know exactly what you'll have even before you trim it. Shortening from the butt will reduce the power a bit. It will also create a slower action. If you plan to trim and then test, then I'd take a couple inches and try it. Then a couple more, etc. .....................

That's just a photo setting. Nothing has changed in the software nor database. Register, then remember how your registered (I'd use the same name form you use here) and all will be well. Write down your password, too. Do that and you'll never have any trouble logging in. Guaranteed. .............

No, a hack doesn't change user names nor does the software have the capability to alter your name or password - that information is set in stone and not even an adminstrator can change your user name. Nor has the photo page been hacked, either. 100% of the time, that's 100% of the time, if you can't log in, you're not providing the same information that you originally registered with. Guarant

Fran, I just took a look - you registered differently on the photo page than you did here. Here you're Fran Park. On the photo page you're fran park. I believe the database registrations are case sensitive. Similar but different. If you aren't using the exact same form of your name or a different password on both, I suggest writing these things down and keeping them handy.

I don't think there will be any questions. The articles are packed with step by step photos that explain the process far better than message board text can. One of the articles has 13 photos. Not hard to do, but it really helps to be able to see each step of the sequence, rather than have to simply try to picture it from text. .........

If you have a rod that you find well set up and want to plot the same progressive spacing on another blank, it's easy. Take what you have now and fix the butt horizontal. Hang a weight from the tip until you have a full 90 degree bend in the blank. This will happen faster on a very fast action rod than a slower action rod, but even then the butt will have some flex in it. This is what you w

Almost any epoxy is strong enough for what we do with fishing rods. The new Quick Bond (faster setting version of Rod Bond) will set in about 15 or so minutes and is set hard enough to handle and work with in an hour or so. .............

It's been done by many people. The amount of flex was determined by the placement of the final mark on the "story pole." We did an article in an early issue of RodMaker based on a system I first saw used by Jim Reid of Winston Salem. You set up a distance, divided it by the number of guides you decided to use, then used those equi-distant marks on your "pole." When the ro

There is absolutely nothing at all wrong with his epoxy. All hardeners turn amber to yellow to brown but that has zero affect on their ability to do their job. It will be just as good 100 years from now as it was when new. And remember, the hardener continues darkening, even after it's been mixed and cured. So a fresh batch of hardener is also going to turn darker, either before you mix it,

A search of this site's archives has all your information. The finish can be safely scrapped off - use a razor blade held at 90 degrees to the blank surface. Do not slice into the blank - only scrape lengthwise. Some paint strippers, the milder ones that are citrus and water based, can do a pretty quick and good job as well. Finish epoxy can be warmed slightly with a hair dryer and scrap

Epoxy doesn't go bad. There is no shelf life. It will outlast you, open or not. Heat the resin until it returns to normal consistency. Set both bottles inside at room temp for an hour before using them and you'll be fine. ...............
