Hello,
A friend suggested this forum for some help. I have a Thomas and Thomas Horizon fly rod and the blue finish is wearing off. I asked the original owner what he knew about the rod he said he is pretty sure that rod was finished with a water based product. (T&T quickly abandoned the process.) I have sent some emails to T&T to try and get some info and I am either asking the wrong the question or their customer service reps haven't been with the company long enough to know. The only information I received from Thomas and Thomas is that the finish is baked on. Is there a safe way to remove the rest of the blue finish from the rod? I also need suggestions on how to get the epoxy safely removed. Re: Stripping a rod blank

A search of this site's archives has all your information.
The finish can be safely scrapped off - use a razor blade held at 90 degrees to the blank surface. Do not slice into the blank - only scrape lengthwise. Some paint strippers, the milder ones that are citrus and water based, can do a pretty quick and good job as well. Finish epoxy can be warmed slightly with a hair dryer and scrape or popped off with a thumbnail or plastic butter knife. ................ Re: Stripping a rod blank

Thanks Alex, I may give that a try. I scraped a small area to see how hard it would be and the finish comes off pretty easy but it will be extremely time consuming.
Thanks Steve Re: Stripping a rod blank

Alex is right on with citristirop. Used it recently and loved the results. Matt White Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
