I was looking to buy a single-footed guide set for a spey rod. Unfortunately most of the ones I find are snake guides. I thought I would take one of the single foot kits here and add a few extra guides to get enough for a Spey rod. But then I noticed something very strange, even kits for the smallest weight rods have rings larger than the spey rod kit. With the time difference, I can't seem

I thought it was pretty neat that he used a microwave turn table as a motor, and explained how to wire it. I'm sure, as a Mechanical Engineer, that I use thingimibob, or whatchamacallit every day, unless of course it's actually a whosiwatsis

A classic expository writing technique is to lay out the problem you are trying to solve before you offer your solution.

Thank you John, I actually ran into that. Sometimes when I look at the pictures posted, I swear you guys are all using some finer thread than I can buy. I can't even see the threads in your shots, in mine the A threads look like steel cables and the gaps look like canyons. On the olive branch, when I got it too tight I got little tiny "shadows" next to all of the leaves.

Was thinking about this in the wee hours. That would look pretty freaking cool on a fly rod.

Check out my post on "naked" reel seats. I've been considering a carbon fiber grip on this rod because I think the combination of seeing the blank through the reel seat that fiber grip would make an outstanding "black-on-black" presentation. I'm even considering a matte black finish for the rod.

I don't know how to unhide my email, but it's jontobey@yahoo.com. I have one ferrule that is "clicking" I think I just want to take that one off and if it comes off cleanly, don't think I want to replace it. That sounds like a night mare. Based on your advice, I'll do it if I have to, but right now I

And what do you replace them with? Do I need to order the parts?

Uploaded a photo showing one of the pins. The rod doesn't seem to have a manufacturers name on it. Handed down 2 generations, might be an old kit rod?

I have some pictures and the ferrules look to be pinned. What do I do, go to the image gallery and post them?

I searched and they came up. Just Google "rosewood burl fighting butt." You might want to take them down.

On furniture projects I've never had luck with Citristrip below 80F, above that it can work miracles. Recently a local rod builder recommended 3M Easiest Stripper for a bamboo rod I'm working on.

After a really horrific experience with epoxy that never dried, I switched to Urethane. One time I had a rod I built in a single sitting in my lathe. I put one coat of urethane on it. I went out for the afternoon to fish before I left for a trip, and broke my main rod. Came home grabbed the single-coated urethane rod and took it for the weekend. The biggest trout I have ever landed came from thi

No manufacturer on it. I'll try to get some pictures. It does look like there may be a pin in it. I never would've figured that out.

My friend has a bamboo rod given to him by his dad that needs some repair. It may have actually come down from his grandfather so its pretty old. One of the metal ferrules is loose and "clicks." I want to remove and reglue this piece. 1) Any best methods for removing the old ferrule? The glue on the handle just dried up and I can pull the handle off. Hoping maybe heat does the trick?

I filled out their form, but as I posted, Karen from Bingham already contacted them directly and I've already waited a month to solve this problem so I'm pursuing parallel avenues. Especially after my conversation with Mudhole.

I'm by no means an expert, but I started placing my guides by first using the manufacturers specs and then doing a static load test, and I'm blown away by how far I move guides/how often I have to add guides to get a good match. I recently laid out an MHX rod and there isn't a single guide on the finished rod that was within inches of the original measurements. Based on that, I don't even both

I found this cool American Tackle burl rosewood trimmed handle in a bin at a local store. Then I found through searching that it was originally part of a whole handle/seat/fighting butt system. It's listed both at Bingham: And at Mudhole Bingham sent me some other reel seat, on further discussion AT told them they never made this part. Mudhole doesn't even know this was on their site, cl
