I hope this isn't breaking any rules. I used to get these 7 piece 3wt blanks on @#$%& by Rods by Roger. These were a fun blank and I gave them away as gifts. Unfortunately, one of my giftees snapped his rod and Roger isn't making this blank any more. Anybody got one of these kicking around they would like to sell?

Okay, so the chuck I bought (which cost more than the lathe) is useless, and I still need to manufacture a mandrel to turn a handle. Shouldn't be this hard! I looked at the Backlash Mandrels, they are 14", but I went this route to be able to turn Spey handles.

I see a number of people are using this tool. What are you using for a tail stock. As a complete newbie to this on advice in a previous post I got a chuck for the tailstock, but when I got the lathe and the chuck, there is no way to replace the current live center with the chuck without manufacturing a part. I want to build my handles on a steel rod (if find the threaded rods I use to glue up

It's that simple? The side force on the handle doesn't just push that off the tailstock?

I'm looking to step up from my drill press to a small hobby lathe, but I think I'll have the same problem. I've never used a lathe. What do you use for a mandrel and how do you attach it to the tail stock? I'm sure a picture is worth 1000 words here...Currently, I thread my cork on to a threaded rod and trap it with wing nuts and washers. I chuck one end into the drill press and have the other en

I'm just doing what my friend wants. His current handle is basically a very whittled down full wells grip, so the flare is important. He wants the rings, so we are going in that direction, too. The interesting thing is that the handle comes with 4-color full glossy directions, just not for the model of the handle I ordered. Mudhole might want to put up a video on that or something.

Buzz, thank you. Where do I find compression rings? Craig, thank you!

Never been here with any question, no matter how obscure, and not gotten help. From a bright red custom reel seat to removing the ferrules from an old bamboo rod (and learning its provenance). So thank all of you and your giving support!

No wonder people use tape! ;-( Maybe a supplier on here will take pity and offer me up some scraps.

Thank you. That was my first choice. The "graphite" rings that came with the MH Tennessee handle look and feel like cheap plastic. I'm wondering if I can get any metal rings. Otherwise I'd have to get two skeleton kits and canabalize them, which is a bit pricey.

HKS-8 Thank you. I guess that kind of makes sense, because if I turned my own handle I couldn't see any way around doing it just that way. Just wanted to check. I think that handle is too fat for what my friend wants anyway. What I really need are the sliding hoods that go on a reel seat.

Still working on a centerpin rod for a friend. I think if I could just get the movable hood rings from a reel seat as a separate part, my problems would be solved. I'm not finding a supplier for these. Anybody?

As I posted on an earlier thread, I'm trying to help a friend build a centerpin rod. I ordered the Mudhole Tennessee handle kit because it came with rings and I thought at least it would make a good mock up. Um, I'm not the sharpest fly in the box, but the rings don't fit over the flares on the handle end. Am I supposed to cut and reglue the handle to make this work?

Yeah, I think he wants to step up from the current tape assembly! Thanks for the mudhole tip.

I've been asked to help build a center pin rod. My friend showed me some photos of centerpin reels attached directly over the grip (no reel seet) using slip rings. Does anybody know where I can source this set up? Also, any handy tips on center pins in general? We are using a med-fast 13' spey blank.

I've been muddling through and have the wish list, but I cannot find a dealer, and that option doesn't work on the site.

I had just looked up your email through LinkedIn! PS, this rod is for the inimitable Bob Triggs, so it's a fun project and we should all get together and tell some lies in Port Townsend when this is done.

Eugene, that is very interesting, but now I'm on a mission to do an apples to oranges comparison. As soon as somebody can set me up with equivalent guide sets, I'll order them and start wrapping.

Geoff, I always put a huge, ugly tamer on my rods. Since you are in the NW and sell guides, you could probably really help me cut to the chase: can you please specify a set of snake guides and a set of "equivalent" single-footed guides from your line up for a 6wt 13' spey rod so that I can order them, I will build the two rods to the best of my ability, and perhaps we can get toget

So if snake guides are stonger and smoother, why do they only use them on fly rods?

Kind of off topic, but if snakes are stronger and smoother, then why don't they use them on other rods?

I thought I had once heard that high ring guides reduced rod slap and gave more distance, so for a while I was using those. I will build and test and get some opinions. Not sure I can collect actual data except to measure casting length/ caster.

I'm looking for single foot because first, I only have to do half as many wraps and second because every wrap slows the rod. All of my single-foot rods out cast factory snake guide rods on the same blank - by a lot. I even have on 2/3 spey with high frame guides as an experiment. I'd be interested in more explanation of the comment: "It was expressed by those who should know - the snakes ju
