I filled out their form, but as I posted, Karen from Bingham already contacted them directly and I've already waited a month to solve this problem so I'm pursuing parallel avenues.
Especially after my conversation with Mudhole.

I'm by no means an expert, but I started placing my guides by first using the manufacturers specs and then doing a static load test, and I'm blown away by how far I move guides/how often I have to add guides to get a good match.
I recently laid out an MHX rod and there isn't a single guide on the finished rod that was within inches of the original measurements.
Based on that, I don't even both

I found this cool American Tackle burl rosewood trimmed handle in a bin at a local store. Then I found through searching that it was originally part of a whole handle/seat/fighting butt system.
It's listed both at Bingham:
And at Mudhole
Bingham sent me some other reel seat, on further discussion AT told them they never made this part. Mudhole doesn't even know this was on their site, cl

155. Re: Rodbuilding work
I think it's sad and unusual that the community didn't at least offer you words of support and encouragement!
Can I suggest that you go through the list of vendors at the left and contact them directly to see if they could use your skills?
Are you in the States?

I think this is the number one understated issue in rod building. I have spent hours trying to wrap one guide only to realize this was the issue. Even with my last guide set which I thought came marvelously pre-prepped I was going mental until I took them all out and did it again. Tom should make this thread sticky this is such an important lesson!

157. Re: Why?
This is a great thread, but I have a question for flex coat, much of engineering today involves materials engineering. I've had absolute disasters with epoxies that have not set and for a long time switched back to simply using urethanes or varnish.
Why are we still using something that is so difficult to use?
I find flex coat to be the riskiest and least enjoyable part of building rods. I've

I bought my 2/3 switch rod blank from Johnny (what a rod!) and my line from Steve. That is the way to go.
Just be aware that you need to call, not email these guys, and appreciate their conversation.
Like Johnny was telling me about catching salmon IN THE BRONX RIVER. And Steve endedn up selling me blanks. (Steve is associated with Meiser.)
I just love how that hooked up and wrote a blog ab

161. Re: Bingham Ent..
I've been dealing with Karen this week.
I agree that it is a bit slow. However, I also own my own mom-and-pop web store and I can tell you, the more customers I have, the more business I do, the more things I have in stock and can afford to have in stock.
So if she has something you want that you can't get elsewhere, or you like her prices, or appreciate her service (ironically it's easier for

165. "Naked" Reel Seat
I just cast and Amundsun Wind Warrior and where the wood or other reel seat component would normally go was just the metal skeleton so you could see the butt of the rod. It was sexy.
Any idea how to do this?
Could I buy a seat like one of these and core it out?

they don't make the blank anymore
I was just really in love with the blank color, and price wasn't the issue. I'll chuck it into a lathe and see what happens. Thanks.

It's a 7 piece 8 ft 3wt, it was only a $40 blank from @#$%&, and they don't make it any more. Not particularly sentimental, I just love the color, a deep reddish brown, and feel stupid that I mucked it up. I don't mind paying for a handle and reel seat if I can salvage it.

It's a 7 piece 8' 3wt. Not an expensive rod, until you can't find it and yes, I want to take off both the handle and the reel seat. Boiling water, huh? What a great idea. I'll try that. Then the lathe.

First please forgive me, I this has been posted before but I cannot find it searching. So I won't be offended by a redirect.
Somehow...I have a handle with epoxy in the space where the reel foot goes. I spent an hour last night with heat and tools and while I got some of the glue out, I really trashed the burl reel seat. This blank isn't available anymore an the rest of the rod is done. So, I'm

You want to talk to Aaron Reimer he used to own River Run Anglers (http://aboutriverrunanglers.blogspot.com/) now defunct but you should be able to contact him there or search his name + spey. He has a free class in Fall City every weekend with a bucket of reels and lines. He will know what you need and let you test it out. I'm ver curious as to how a spey cast works at the beach. Do you do a dum

Right, because the instructions were "separate register." Which I figured was unique register or why would there be two?

I'm logged in here, but when I go to images and try to look at a slide show it tells me I need to register or log in. When I try to log in again, I get an error.
Known bug? Separate log in required?

I have a BUNCH of blanks and was looking to find if I could order an assortment of fly rod guides. I found this:
But I wish there were more selections (like stainless, etc.).

I actually did some research on CTS adn I'm pretty much sold on the blank for my purposes. Where are you located ? I would love to cast that rod!
BTW, that makes CTS about the coolest company on the planet. I think they did something similar for my friends when they were filming Trout Bum Diaries.
