After I sand, I try to brush the dust off, but can never seem to get it all off, so I end up wiping down with denatured alcohol. Never had any problems.... yet. Guess I should just spend more time brushing the dust off.

I had a great time in Charlotte with Billy, Mike and John. Thanks to these guys for all their efforts in making this possible for NERB's. It was great to meet everyone, or as Mike would say, y'all, down in Charlotte. Just to many people to list here. Looking forward to next year.
Thanks to Tom Kirkman for letting us visit his shop. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the NERB's booth, can'

I ended up at Pep Boys for almost 10 hours, and I was not very happy with them. That is a done deal now, so forget them. I finally got home about 9pm last night. Many thanks to Billy and all his help. Thankfully he knew the area which made things easier.
The show was a blast, and I really enjoyed doing wrapping demos and answering questions. Thanks to everyone who stopped by. Looking forw

I personally use a Lamiglas CGBT 841M for tog, and love it. Another suggestion would be a Lamiglas CGBT 841MH.

I personally use size A thread for everything, but you could use whatever size you would like to use.

When I first started wrapping, I was holding a spool in one hand, spinning with the other.... one thread at a time. Now that I have a Clemens lathe, I basically do it the same way Mike J. does his. I find the lathe method so much easier, as I have much better tension control. One to three threads at a time. I like the final results of one thread at a time better, much better detail. But laying th

I agree, VisualWrap is a breeze to get your tapered spacings. I have never tried the other methods, so I can not comment on them, but I have had no issues with the VisulaWrap.

I am proud to say that I will be in the North East Rod Builders booth along with Billy and Mike, the two guys whose wraps have inspired me to start wrapping. In the short time that I have been wrapping, Billy and Mike have helped me tremendously, I can not thank them enough.
Looking forward to meeting everyone in Charlotte, can't wait!!

I had a great time at this gathering. Lots of nice rods there, some great demos, and a great group of guys. Many thanks to Victor for hosting this gathering, beautiful shop you have there. This was my third NERB's gathering, and as always, I come away from it having learned more about rod building. Looking forward to the next one!!! Also, thanks to Billy for setting this up.

I used to be set up in front of the TV, but moved my bench to a different room. So it's a CD player now, with anything like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Candlebox, Stones, Zappa. I also listen to alot of Smooth Jazz, like Boney James, Brian Bromberg, Fattburger, Jeff Golub....good stuff!!
But I will have a TV set up in this room before the Daytona 500 in Febuary, gotta watch the races!!!

Mike, that is what I am going to do. I think I have a few junk reels around here somewhere. If not, I will hit a yardsale, @#$%& or something. Thanks!!

Good info, guys. I use line of site, without the reel. And flip it over, do the slipt the guide thing. Never tried with the reel inplace, but will on the next.

Billy, to see the availible colors of Maderia 60wt Polyneon, look at your color card. Any of the color numbers with a black dot next to it is availible in 60wt.
It would take me forever to wrap a butt wrap with 60wt thread, especially on some of those big blanks that I wrap on.....plus I still wrap one thread at a time!!

Mike, I can picture rods breaking "riding the rail". I never used to do that, but saw others doing it. Monkey see, monkey do. LOL!! I have to stop doing that!!! I will be doing more cod fishing this fall, I will get in touch with you.

Shawn, I do not have any spiral wrapped rods and have never fished one. I see a few while fishing up north, and the guys that have them swear by them. So I am going to spiral wrap the Calstar that I am working on now, and see what I think about these spiral wrapped rods.

I use 18" hypalon rear grip and a 8" EVA foregrip. Once again, whatever suits you needs best for the grips. Some people prefer 10" foregrip, some like the 12", I like the 8". I do use the rail for leverage, but I did recieve a message from Mike awhile back that said, "stop riding the rail!!!". LOL!!!!! Can't wait to do a cod fish trip with you, Mike.

Shawn,
I built myself both the Lamiglas CGBT96H and a Seeker CSB909, cut to a 14 tip. I do a fair amount of cod fishing in the Gulf of Maine. Majority of my cod fishing is from party boats. I mainly jig, and use bait on occassion. I perfer the Lamiglas CGBT96H. It's great for jigging. I jig with mostly 10 and 12 oz. jigs, but have used up to 17oz. The 96H could handle 21oz. jig, no problem
