Brad, sounds like a Magnuflex blank. I have several of these, and recently stripped one down, and re-finished with Permagloss, no problems. Sean

Madeira 1987 is available, and has been for quite some time. Check with Mark or Colleen at @#$%&, I am sure they have some in stock. It will only set you back a few dollars.

I have wrapped guides with 40wt. Madeira with no issues. But as Doc mentioned, I found it more difficult to work with. My problem was with the amount of stretch with the Madeira.

I had a customer ask about a celtic knot design on a rod. I look into some celtic knots, but could not figure how to do this on a rod. Curious to see if anyone has had any luck with this.

Mike, I have wrapped several 96H's with Madeira 40, used CP on the wraps, no problems. And my guides are single wrapped.

Get a copy of VisualWrap, and a copy of Billy Vivona's book. These will both help you get started.

Mark, I have been using thinned 811, about 20%. I was applying two coats of this, and would get crystals which were very visable on the darker colors. I now use one coat, and have had no issues.

I agree with Jim. I also was using the expensive sable brushes, but recently switched to using the cheap yellow Flexcoat brushes. No difference in the finish(ThreadMaster). And if your really cheap like me, you can clean the cheap yellow brushes, and get a few uses out of them.

Do a Google Search for Madeira Thread and you will find plenty of websites that have Madeira.

I have some of the Madeira supertwist, going to do a few test wraps with epoxy tonight or tomorrow. I already did some test with the white. Curious to see what happens with the other colors.

The secret is to use a nylon thread with no color preserver, and it will make the translucent look you are looking for.

Ernie, I also have noticed the torque of the rod while fishing for cod. I personally have three different blanks that I have built and use for cod. My favorite is a Lamiglas CGBT 96H. Next would be the Calstar GF900M, which I have trimmed down, and then I have a Seeker CSB909, also trimmed down. The Seeker I am re-wrapping at this very moment. I think I will go ahead and wrap the guides

I do alot of cod and haddock fishing, and have built several cod rods, but none have been spiral wrapped. I have considered it, just have not done it yet. I would use HNSG, BHNNG, or BHNLG guides, whatever your preference. Stripper guide size 20, a size 10 or 12 for the bumper, which ever size keeps the line off the blank, and then all size 12's on the bottom, 180 axis. Hope this helps.

You need to use CP when using the nylon thread, otherwise the nylon thread will be translucent as was the case with your wrap. CP will not effect the metallic thread.
