I wonder if it might be Rosin which melts at about 100-120 degrees. Used to use it in naval ship yards when they bent big pipe, maybe still. Melt it, poured into pipe, it cooled to a very hard substance where they could bend the pipe without collapsing. I melted it to combine with other stuff to make my own tree grafting wax.

If you wait too long or take too long to apply finish, it becomes more viscous and the bubbles have a harder time to migrate/float to the surface. usually just a fast swipe of the flame under the rod will suffice. Too much fussing over your finish while applying will cause you problems.

Remember this, the reason in the past glass was called for use as the outer sleeve is because a larger diameter will be stiffer by nature so glass reduces that. What you don't want happen is say the blank has a certain flexibility then you come to the edge of your sleeve and it is much stiffer, which makes what they call a STEP FUNCTION at that point and thus a SHEAR point where your rod would mo

I have used syringes for decades and if I want a 1cc amount in each syringe I very accurately watch the plunger location and the mix has always set up. All the caps on my epoxy finish bottles are the same size for each size bottle and I have noticed different brands are the same size. I drill a tight fit hole in the top of each cap, push the tip of the Syringe in the hole and circle with rod bond

Yes, a lot of solutions can be based on worldly practical experiences like what to do when mixing two part finishes. i learned back in the early 1950's from my Mom when she was making something that had an oil and a sticky substance like Honey. If you measure the oil first, then the honey the honey would separate from the measuring cup easier. So because of that I put the thinner Hardener in the

I used to use silk for all my weaves because the color selection allowed me to match Mother Nature, but harder to maintain spool color with any CP.

Since you are on a time crunch to learn everything about why, I would go to a big sports store and look at their rods. You will notice the cheaper rods have fewer guides to save parts and labor costs. You can get an idea about grips lengths (take something to measure and take pictures with your cell phone.) Before you order thread, Find out each kids favorite color. before you slide grips and sea

This subject has literally been discussed for DECADES. Hey if that is what you think should be done, go for it. In raising my 4 kids I tried to teach my kids so that they avoided what I did, but sometimes they just had to do it their way and then they would learn and then try to teach their children. Decades from now this subject will probably be discussed.

We have seen many discussions on this site about sensitivity and comparing weights of guides to get the very lightest guide even by a gram or two to get the most sensitive rod. Now we are talking about a fly line with my limited experience is a lot heavier than a very small braid or a couple pound mono and this fly line is running through your guides and laying there as a mass that compromises th

Yes, there is more to rod-building, It reminds me of many years ago I was interviewing a Christmas tree grower for my Son who was looking for a new supplier of Christmas trees. He said when he started to grow them, he thought all you had to do is plant them and harvest them when they were the correct size. He soon learned that you had to worry about water and soil chemical makeup, insect and fung

It isn't always foot thickness/stiffness. I have a rod that I had a big weave on it that someone wanted to show at some function so I wrapped the guides and shipped it to him. Without the rod being used, the epoxy had cracked. I concluded that the only reason that fit the circumstances was the increased heat I used to speed the cure. My .02

I don't think you will save as much weight as you think, because with the thinner thread it will require more wraps to cover the same distance.

The tenon keeps the Butt cap centered. Slide the blank all the way into the Butt cap that you have loaded with Rod Bond Paste epoxy. So now the cap is centered to the Butt grip and the epoxy in the bottom supplies support around the blank so it is all stable.

I have been with this site almost from the start. I like the new change and wanted this from the start along with some others however that wasn't what the rules were and since this was almost the only game in town I/we adapted. Thanks for the change.
