I have to say I did go to a glass blank when I needed to do a particular thing. Fishing from the bank for COHO where I am casting a Herring with no weight. I figured if you have a snappy Graphite, the herring would be thrown off after about the 2nd cast, where as a softer rod wouldn't do that, so I got a 12' glass Spey blank, extened the butt and made a very long spinning blank. Worked great. hav

Check fingernail art. Some teams are very protective of their teams stuff and don't want people to make any money off their licensed stuff. One day I made a rod for a charity and planned on weaving a Seahawks logo on the rod. I contacted the Seahawks legal department and told them what I wanted to do. The legal dept gave me the ok to make that weave and two more as long as I wasn't making any mon

Was told this about 1980 by Camm Clark. What he showed me was the Tiptop guide tube was a little larger than the blank so he recommend that it be wrapped toward the tiptop tube, When your wrap reached the tube you continue wrapping BACK over it self with the pull thru loop under this back tracking wrap until you got enough to contain the tag end and finish with pull through like any other wrap.

I have to say that back in the day before Gary sold G Loomis to Shimano, my favorite blank I built on and used was and is the ST114 2 IM6 8-12lb that I made for Steelhead and Springers on the Cowlitz (just north of you) drift fishing with a bait caster reel. What current blank that you sell is similar?

Yes it was a great event. enjoyed watching the break test on some blanks and rods. Cris, I didn't see any wood? LOL The POTLUCK was great with the fresh caught Tuna and Salmon/Steelhead and all the rest. Lots of items given away on the drawings including Blanks, Guides, epoxy, finish and many more. Chris gave a great presentation as usual. But was a tea-totaler and opted for a milk shake at the w

What I said 8 or so years before was get a large paper clip or a wire and put a hook shaped bend in each end. This is to isolate the heat on the tiptop from melting the rubber band. I use a large/long paper bundle rubber band. I hook the wire between the eye on the tiptop and the rubber band. I put a good stretch in the rubber band (staying on the axis of the blank) and attach to a solid fixed po

I didn't know Doc at that time, but have no doubt that he would have helped me. I learned from Art when he wrote the two articles in the old RodCrafters journal as well as years of emails. Art was very Knowledgable on many topics including being a world class musican and would play in some of the big symphonies. I was amazed with the planning he put into the house he had built. He had a piece of

Frankly I felt that since Art sent it to me to proof for him, it was still ART's work and should be his say so or now the family's say so if it to be published in any way. Just like if I gave one of my patterns to somebody and after all my hard work I see it among other patterns for sale on some site. Believe me, that has happened and it is dispicable. I know some would like to see it, but that s

No pictures Doc, Art told me he had these rods on loan to him from the estate so, I believe, he could examin them. I know he wanted to buy them, but don't know if he ever did. If so they went to his heirs. Kerry

Doc I had a friend who was a Master rod builder/Weaver who wrote an article for the old original Rodcrafters booklet/journal that gave me a start at "Color Change" weaving who has since passed away (Arthur Durham) who had some very old Bamboo rods he got from an estate that were made in the late 1800's. Art said there were very obvious "Color Change" weaving on them. He also

You could build yourself a dryer box so that you won't have that dust that is floating around in your shop from settleing on the fresh finish. I built mine out of plexiglas so i could get good light into the box and I can close it up so the air inside is dead and not moving. I use a couple strings of christmas tree lights to distribute the heat evenly in the box. I have a thermometor (sp) so I ca
