Mike, I think your customer will really like this blank. Everytime I see my customer he is always buying me a cup of coffee and telling me another fish he's caught on this rod.

The IC 847-3 Rainshadow might be what your looking for. The fellow I built one for has had it in South America for peacock bass. Yukon Territory for lakers and pike. He says it will work fine on salmon also.

Tim, You have a much better chance of getting Dan Craft on the phone, he carries a pretty good supply for fly rods as that's his business. Angler's Workshop is easy to get by phone or e mail They heavier into American Tackle supplies, they carry some Batson and the Batson clan is trying to get more in the store. Angler's gets special orders to me in about a week, I live in Camas. They have very

Bill, Without more info on the blanks, I'd guess the medium heavy steelhead blanks you mentioned would be similar to the 12 wt blank.

I think the St Croix 7 ft MH crankbait blank would do a good job. 3C70MHM.

The XMG 50 Lamiglas blanks are nice also I have a 10 ft 5 wt and a 9 ft 6 in 7 wt both fine rods. The Lamiglas Perigee blanks also make a fine rod. globalflyfisher.com and flyanglersonline.com have both built and fished these blanks and posted reviews.

Custom Tackle Supply for one. The J. J. jig, the one shown on the site, isn't the one they now sell. It's a nicer quality jig.

The Lamiglas CGX blanks were the G500 Saltwater/Musky/Heavy Freshwater blanks in the Lamiglas line in 2001 at least. There are only 2 XH blanks in the line I see the 78XH 6 ft 6 in., rated for 20-30 lb line, 7 1/2 tip, .745 butt, rated for 1 to 5 oz lure weight. The other the 96XH 8 ft 7 tip, .645 butt, 30 lb line, 3/4 to 3 1/4 oz lure weight.

Looks to me like someone mis-bagged a 4 wt. Look at the 9 ft 4 wt specs on the CC data site. It happens.

There is lots of information on finish application here. Put "spatulas", "credit cards", "playing cards", "brushes" in the search engine and select "all dates" then schedule an hour or so of free time.

Danny, Angler's Workshop is a Diamondback dealer, but I've only seen the fly blanks in the shop. I bet they can order you one though.

Tom, I'm with Emory here. Years ago I messed around with the balancing of rods. Tried long handles, adding weight, etc. I couldn't say it made a positive difference. Some of the long handled rods shorter rods I built balanced beautifully and were very sensitive. They just didn't fish very well. That said, never hurts to do your own experimenting, and half of sucessful fishing at least is confi

Richard, I don't think adding weight to the butt of that crankbait rod is necessary. You can comfortably fish a crankbait rod that is tip heavy because the rod is fished tip down and the natural tension of the crankbait swimming through the water lightens the tip as you reel it in. I think the rod must balance somwhat in the presentation position, not on your finger in the horizontal position un

Sulky blue metallic embroidery thread would be very close to the batson blue on the reelseat and on the blue ring guides.

Ralph, There should have been a repair kit in the pockets of your float tube for repairing the vinyl bladders.

There are better valued and just as nice blanks from the sponsors to the left, let us know what your looking at and we'll steer you in the right direction. Loomis isn't very serious about their blank business.

Joe, There are a bunch of spey forums. Some are from the midwest and they have some builders on them that have tried just about everything. Blanks that are a good value get talked up a lot on forums. Give them a try.

Stan, Have the customer put the line through all the guides but the one on top and see if he likes it. Had a female customer who needed a shorter, faster tipped blank do to her shoulder bothering her while using a longer rod. She liked it so much she also started using it for sturgeon, oversized ones. Everyrhing was fine till her husband helped her bring a big one in. First he burned his thumb,

Chris, This is where I do thing out of the ordinary. IMO jigging rods don't need big guides for any reason. Vertical presentations simply don't need them I don't think. If your going to use it for other things where casting is important than put on the big guides. Picked this up from an old builder who made wallye jigging rods when I was stationed in Michigan. My dropshot rod has the recoil #16

Bryan, The Series One Berkeley rods have had that style seat since the late 80's that I can remember. I own a few of them and copied the cutout design on my rods that used the old Pac Bay wood reelseats. They were nice looking but heavy due to the stabilized wood, never really liked the Pac Bay graphite skeleton so I used Fuji usually. Merrick has some of the fancy seats, Summer Moon, Dan Craft

Keith, Lamiglas and quite a few companies carry extensions that were originally designed for extending surf blanks. I think a lighter, cheaper and a faster fix would be to use a piece of aluminum tube as an oversleeve. Tom had a fantastic article on extending blanks back in the 2004 back issues I believe.

I'm with Ralph and Tom, I know lots of people that used to purposely remove about an inch of rod tip on travel rods to help protect the tip from travel damage.

I have a 664DHX and I don't think that blank has the guts for some of the heavy stuff I seen down south. Others that are worth looking at are the St Croix 4C73XHF which a buddy of mine said is heavy enough that he uses it as a crossover pike/musky stick also. A discountinued Lamiglas Certified Pro blank with warranty is at Mudhole, the XC86H, a blank that also gets used for saltwater bass deep ji

You could certainly build one thatr turns around, but it would be easier to build an extenion that goes on the back of the existing fly grip. Much like a long fighting butt extension. There are many examples on the photo section to give you ideas.

Emory Harry did an extensive article on this in RodMaker Vol. 8 Issue 3. The jest of the article is that heavy boat rods and the heavier bass rods will have a difference, but it may not be very noticeable due to the weight/power of the rod. The lighter powered rods, salmon/steelhead, 3 power and lighter bass rods, spin popping rods, etc. will see a very noticeable difference, he reports about 6 t
