David, If you applied too much epoxy it would cure faster than if less. By now you must realize that you dispensed from the same bottle twice - resin and resin OR hardener and hardener. Not enough to wipe off soft epoxy. You have to re-wrap the whole rod - unless the first coat cured properly and the last coat is sitting on top of cured epoxy. If the whole thing is uncured you have to re

Taylor The shortest "STOCK" blank CTS makes is 6'6" in the type of action you would want. They will build a 5'0" blank . BUT - their new custom fee of $250 will make it impractical for a "one-off". BUT - if they had built this blank for someone before and they still have the engineering there will not be such a fee. Give me particulars (# pieces, painted a

For years I have built the full wells with a pretty pronounced "swelling" at the ends. But lately I have gone over to the "Ritz" grip for my personal rods. Customers still want the full wells because they are used to the look - I guess. Herb

Off the question - but I hope that you are using a respirator - not a dust mask - while working indoors. That stuff will mess with your brain cells and lungs. It would be wise to use it outdoors. read the label and take it seriously. Herb

Personally I dislike the way it looks to incorporate the ferule wrap with a guide wrap. You should use Batson's recommendation for length of ferrule wrap. Differs from manuf. to manuf. CTS calls for no wrap. Gatti calles for a full 15 mm. I split a Gatti ferrule just spining it. And it was wrapped with tape. Herb

Juan If it is a 9'0" blank it typically takes 10 guides plus the tip-top. If it is a typical trout-actioned 5wt I would use a #12 stripper and either go directly to all #2 REC Recoil snakes or single foot runners. Or - #12 stripper and a #6 REC guide, #4, and the rest #2's. Single foot or snakes = personal preference. Ferrule necessary???? It probably has a tip over butt ferrule alread

Hey Bruce And - thanks Bill. The #6 may be a bit too much rod for what you want it for. I do have some 4pc, #4 and #5 in the MX and X that would be better - I think. Let me know if interested. Normally there is a 2-4 month wait for these blanks. But I did stock some of the above - so I have them here. Regards, Herb Distrib. CTS Blanks

Lou, Glad to see you are still around. Yours was the first book I read on the subject. Actually - now that I think about it - the only one. You are the reason I end my thread finish at the last wrap - and not overlapped onto the blank. herb

Sid, No brainer - I do it all the time. BUT do not put the male ferrule into the chuck. I have a procedure that connects the male ferrule to the chuck without ANY chance of damage. Email me for an explanation if interested. Simple procedure but too long to go into it here and I want to insure that you don't do it incorrectly that is why I will not do it here. We will probably have to go b

Roger "They" are just decimating the saltwater striped bass population. Both individuals killing fish and commercial. On Cape Cod this past June I saw a guy kill a keeper but also short. I told a state guy in an official truck - but he said it was not his job. He was only mosquito control. Herb

I only build saltwater fly rods - so I made an assumption. No line weight was mentioned. Do you mean here are people who fish fresh water??? :-)) Funny thing is more do that than salt. Herb
