Hey Joe
I have a CTS Float blank that may fit your needs.
It is a 13'0" for 2-4lb, 3 piece.
It has some manufacturing sanding scratches in its raw carbon finish.
The list price is over $300. Beecause of the scratches I will sell to you for $125.

I have been using elastic beading thread for years. Can adjust guides, even cast.
You buy in craft stores like Michaels or Joanns.
Cut off 8" and wrap guide foot under tension. Make two overhand knots. Adjust guide -finished.

Offer Withdrawn
Glenn,
I have a CTS blank that a customer abandoned.
It is a Elite SD 9'0", 4pc, rated for .2oz to .7oz. But I tested it and he sweet spot is near the lower limit.
You can test it if you would like. Price would be below my cost.

I only use the RSLL and RSLS (saltwater).
The hood on both is exactly 0.93".
Don't know what others are.

1386. Re: Best snake guides?
I have always used REC recoils - both snakes and single foot.
I decided to try Snakebrand Universals a few months ago.
Since i use size "00" for runners on a fly rod i was very disappointed with how the thread climbed the guide foot.
I had to prep them to a very fine point.
I didn't like the idea of filing off the chrome so i asked Mike if he would consider chroming preprepped

Filling the guide tunnels is very important to help support the guide. Guides do not fit precisely to the contour of the blank so it is important to fill that space under the guide also. What I do is fill the tunnels before doing anything else. Use a stylus or even a needle and apply drop by drop to the tunnel entrances. The thread will wick the finish into the tunnel and under the guide feet

Guide may go on female ferrule as Randolph said.
I use the elastic thread in .5mm that beaders use to make children's bracelets. I cut off about 6-8 " and wrap it around guide foot (feet) and secure with two overhand knots. The guide can be adjusted and the rod can even be casted. Also - the thread leaves no residue like tape can do.
Get it in the beading section of any craft store li

1391. Re: Cts travel blank
Rick,
Let's just take one example.
CTS ferrules do not have to be wrapped for reinforcement. On my fly rods I put the minimal amount of wraps just for aesthetics. About 3/16" on the tip section ferrule of a fly rod.
I always spine and test cast my blanks HARD with temporarily fastened guides without wrapping ferrules. Never had an issue with splitting.
Gatti (Italy), however, recommend

Nate,
Just flip the wrapper end for end and you have solved the wrong-way issue. Will your rod have a fighting butt? If so you can turn the while thing at once. Send me your email and I will send instx.
Cork in not wood. It will not absorb glue. Use epoxy.

What Tom said.
A sensitive hand WILL feel the difference - especially if you choose heavy chromed guides and the blank has a light-line rating. i.e. You may not feel the excess weight on a #10 rod as much as on a #5 rod.
My opinion - save the larger guides for a heavier blank.

I like the new West System G_Flex for gluing cork and seats. It is a 1:1 ratio and is very flexible.
I only turn my grips on the blank. Never had to re-do. but if you do screw-up simply turn the whole thing down to ALMOST the blank and re-glue other cork rings.
What are you using as a lathe?

Don't worry about the ferrules and resulting actions. CTS' are the best in the industry for strength and flex profile.
what power are you considering?

Sandy,
I live on the beach in FL, fish 5 X a week, and use the surf as my Cape Cod beach testing tank. Wish I had the problem of fish slime. Have to stick with my evaluation of carbon.

Tom/Dick,
If people say that they are not slippery as fly rod grips then they are not getting in the surf and getting wet. Yes- when used in a boat in fairly dry conditions - or where one can dry their hands on a towel they can be tolerable.
But in down-and-dirty serious surf (WET) conditions they are slippery. Interestingly freshwater make them "grippier". Not saltwater however.

Mark.
All Tom says is true.
However, I would not recommend them as fly grips to be used in saltwater - especially in higher line weights. i.e. 9wts and above.
They are very slippery in salt water and very hard on the casting hand.
I had two personal #10 weights with carbon grips and after one year I ground them off and replaced with cork.
A customer asked me to install a carbon grip on a

Billy is correct. I have had paint residue come off onto a rag using DNA. And, as said above, they are two different compounds. I think DNA is a less complicated and a "cleaner" solvent since it has no - or minimal - water.

Hi,
CTS will have a one piece blank similar to the Vapor trail, but much more power, soon. Don't know if it will go to 10oz though. I will get back to you.

David,
Tom is correct.
But you are probably really not interested in the blanks action rather than power.
A fast action blank, as Tom stated, will lock-up "faster" than A "slow" action blank. i.e. more towards the tip.
If you trim from the top you will eliminate some of the more flexible part of the blank so it will be more powerful. But it will lock-up deeper into the bl

Bryan,
Issue was not the use of a belt. It was the use of a SLOTTED gimbal vs a smooth conventional FB.
Tom/Terje,
I have cut and pasted your comments (Terje - your last post) to the customer and he now agrees NOT to have slots in the FB (gimbal).
Just a simple - but beefy - fighting butt that I can turn on my lathe.
Thanks to all,
Herb
