They look really sharp Jim. I assume they have a clear coat on them. For the custom rod builder who wants to make that special-blow-your-mind custom build I think they would be great. For those of us that build a lot of true custom rods for the angler (especially here in the Midwest) I think they would be pricey based on what has been offered in the past and their cost. Out of 200 or so custom ro

David, I was wrong. I don't have silver, I have the gold. If you can use that I will send it to you no charge. The name of it is Chartpak graphic tape.
Here is their company link. Perhaps you can order it in silver. i have used this on under wraps on the old fiberglass rod rebuilds. Works great, very thin. You can wrap thread right off the edge with no hassles or gaps. Sorry i didnt have

I would like to start a discussion specifically on the application for Great Lakes trolling, wire line rods. I have been told and have had very good success in building trolling rods using Fuji Silicon Nitride (SiN) double foot guides for wire line trolling. Fuji advertises that these guides can be used with wire line.
After several years and about 2 dozen rods, most on charter boats I have ye

Doug, yes that is the restrictions, but with all due respect I have never been told in two years of airplane travel (50 plane rides) that I was required to check this particular bag because it was too long. The only times they made me check at at the jet bridge is when EVERYONE's carry ons had to be checked due to the small size of the plane. And when it was checked, still had no trouble with bre

Eric,
I have been very fortunate that I get to fish occasionally with my job all of which involves airplane travel. I have the MHX 842 and 843 spin rods that are a 3 pc spin, 7’0”. The 842 covers a wide variety of fishing situations including inshore. 843 is heavier but has a lot of uses. 842 is a GREAT travel rod, saltwater or fresh but really shines in the flats. You might want to consider you

131. Re: static test
Phil,
i realize you have been building for a while but you might want to consider taking the Mud Hole Custom Tackle rod building class. Day 1 you build an entire rod from scratch including wrapping and finish application. Day two is all advanced techniques demonstrations including a detailed demonstration for a static line deflection test and custom guide spacing for spin rods, casting rods, and

I would like to test the durability of 1. a painted ice blank, and 2. the tip section of a painted ice blank which has been painted and clear coated. i want to test this BEFORE the ice fishing season (we won't get ice until November in Wisconsin)/. Nothing bends as much as the tip section of a power noodle blank (you can bend the tip all the way around to touch the blank) so I thought this wou

The search continues............

Does anyone have a photo they can post of a trolling rod, guides on top, under load that shows the tip and some of the guides near the tip starting to twist and torque due to downward pressure? Looking for this photo to put next to a spiral wrap photo to make a point.
Thanks

Frank once you figure out line type (mono or braid) and line size, then take the diameter of the outer edge of the reel spool, divide that in half and that will be the ring size for the stripper guide to start with. Of course test casting is part of the process but this is a very good way to start.
Example 42mm diameter of reel spool / 2 = 21mm or a 25mm ring size stripping guide.

You can make the length and width ANY size you want. Whatever best fits your hand and the rod AND reel set up that you are going to use. Cork works great for ice rods. Burl cork works better (IMO) as it is more dense and will tolerate more abuse than natural cork.
Also consider maybe Texalium tubing for a TN handle.

Kevin, hand reamer or power reams? Power reamer will take care of that problem as it is easy to keep that type of reamer centered via the hand that is hold the cork. Power reamer seems to do a better job taking off rubberied cork also.
