You know there are a lot of websites and forums that promote rod building and have photos of really cool custom rods. But none of them match the quality of photo and rod building as the Mud Hole Rod Building Calendar. I have no idea how many submissions there are, or who has to narrow them down to only 12. But I save each and every one of the calendars and use it for ideas on how I can do dif

Does anyone know of a specific brand of blank that can be purchased that is made for, or adapted for inline (line runs through blank and out end into a spring bobber) ice fishing rods. Should be 36 to 50". I know I can collect broken fly rod tip sections but I am looking for a blank that can be purchased over and over for multiple rod orders. thanks, Buzz

Joined together Roger. The "spring" material fits into a hole in the bottom of the circle piece. Looks like it was clamped shut (circle piece). The material for the "spring" is very similar to, if not exactly X-ray film. I've got access to plenty of that (played hockey as a teen) but i can't figure out the origin of this end loop.

I appreciate the input but i literally dont want to put a square spring bobber in a round hole. Besides the weight of a fly rod tip top will really cause this particular spring bobber to bend.

Roger this spring bobber DID come from Russia Federation. The end almost looks like a very small version of a wire connector for putting boat wiring on a battery post. The search goes on...........

I have figured out what the flat plastic material is used to make this spring bobber but I have no idea where the end of it came from. The "spring" actually fits into the bottom of the orange looped end of the spring bobber. I seriously doubt someone manufactured this end just for spring bobbers. But I can't figure out where it came from or originally what it was used for. Anyone know??

Roger, you epoxy brand was blacked out. I went to Threadmaster because of similar problems with another finish and have not had problems. Also let the finish cure just a little bit longer before applying to the decal area. Sometimes if the finish is thin it works its way under specific brands of decals. Let it tack up a bit and this problem should be taken care of. Buzz

Over insure the packages. the only PVC I ever had break the United States Postal service had it sticking out of a basket on a forklift and drove through a doorway catching the end of the pipe on the door frame and snapped the PVC in half. They said it was their fault. But since I didn't insure it, I was out the money.....................

Micheal, I convinced it was "operator error" with the students involved I just like to get another rod builder's perspective. Ive help teach the Mud Hole classes for the last three years (about 1500 students) and when we have a very rare tacky finish problem it us usually most of the rod, not one guide here and one guide there. That was interesting. We got it fixed so its all good.

Here is a finish problem I have not run into before. 17 high school students participated in an ice fishing rod building class recently. In addition to building the rod and wrapping the guides many of the students magic marbled the grips. Of the 18 rods built, 3 had tacky finish. But that isn’t the mystery, only a couple of guide wraps were tacky on these rods. The grips and remaining guides

Steve, I had a huge problem with fish eyes to the point that most of the finish was being "repelled" from this thread. Once I stopped using U-40 color lock and use the chromeseal instead I have had no problems. Love the colors of this thread. Buzz

Without knowing the make and model of the grip, yes, the rings are not supposed to fit over the flare. if it is the HKS-20" I thought it was already cut. If you have a long cork grip with rings that are not cut simply cut near the middle. ream and mount it, epoxy and clamp back together, light sanding, good to go....... hope that answers it Buzz
